I got a new joystick controller!
A few months ago, I bought an 8bitdo arcade stick controller. Over the past several weeks/months, my boyfriend and I slowly made upgrades to it, primarly with a new arcade-grade mechanical joystick and mechanical arcade buttons, both made by Sanwa. The new stick was especially tricky because it had to be modified to fit the pin format in the actual controller it was going into.
If I recall correctly, my boyfriend actually invited his uncle over for advice and help, and we ended up having to literally cut the new joystick's PCB, and his uncle even had to teach him some soldering skills! This modification was definitely a learning experience for both of us, to say the least!
The buttons are in the color scheme of the controller for OG Xbox (the one from the PS2/Gamecube/Dreamcast era).
If you don't know what that controller looks like, you can see a pic of it by clicking here.
This means that RB and LB are replaced with translucent black and translucent white.
Since RB/RT and LB/LT are flipped on this new joystick controller, that means we had to make sure white goes on the right and black goes on the left, as opposed to the other way around which is how they would have physically appeared on the OG Xbox controller.
The arcade stick has also been outfitted with a new spring at 200% tension. We also replaced the joystick head with a red bat top head for ergonomics and aesthetics.
I also had further plans for this joystick like modifying the buttons with opaque black rims for a cleaner look, but my boyfriend insists on keeping it as it currently is, which is also fine. He has done most of the work after all!
I've been playing Ms. Pac Man and various Atari Vault games to my heart's content! This is essentially my dream controller!
I love my boyfriend!
