A Dog of Flanders is an 1872 novel by English author Marie Louise de la Ramée
published with her pseudonym "Ouida".
It is about a Flemish boy named Nello and his dog, Patrasche and is set in Antwerp.
In Japan and Korea the novel has been a children's classic for decades
and was adapted into several Japanese films and anime!
In 1975 Nippon Animation (Furandasu no Inu) made a faithful adaptation of the novel
and considered one of the best anime ever with a heartbreaking and sad ending!
My drawing is based on the anime!
A summary of the novel and the anime reads as follows:
Nello is a poor boy who lives in a small town in Belgium with his granpa.
Together, they deliver milk door to door.
Nello has two friends, a young girl named Aloise, and his dog Patreche, who he saved from an abusive owner.
He's also a boy with ambitions to become a great artist like his idol, Reubens. Nello has poor but good life, until Patriche's old owner finds out that the injured dog has been nursed back to health, he demands her back.
Grandfather uses rent money to pay off the old owner, which puts them in even more of a financial mess.
Aloise's father, who is a rich land owner, forbids Nello to come near his daughter after he finds out she's helping him earn rent money, and Gandpa's health slowly begins to fail, he eventually dies.
The whole world from then on is just plain mean to Nello, and he becomes a homeless outcast.
At the end of the anime...and under a cold winter night...Little Nello and his dog died...
The ending is devastatingly sad!
I've cried like never before, watching this anime ... and I'm sure the tears will be in your eyes too!*hugs*

Ya vi el primer capítulo del anime y realmente me conmovió, por eso, lo veré de principio a fin y porque realmente, me encantó.
