Sal the Arachi (spider) and Ezra the Vespid (wasp) from a post-apocalyptic Earth where insect outlived man.

Sal is a grizzled old war vet, grumpy, less than conversational and more interested in his textile business than the goings on of the world.
Ezra is Sal's market neighbor, the gay fruit vendor.

Naturally the two clash on a regular basis, but no one can say Ezra's constant smile and good nature don't help Sal's own wholly unapproachable demeanor and sour moods.

Few know the story behind the two: One dark and stormy night while out hunting for Entomos foolish enough to stray out alone, Sal happened upon two discarded bodies - a wingless Vespid and a Teran (moth) with its wings torn off. Thinking to eat the corpses, Sal found one of them - the Vespid - was still alive. Just barely, but enough that he chose to take the man in and nurse him to health. He ate the dead Teran, as Arachi are wont to waste nothing.
As the Vespid - who revealed his name to be Ezra - healed, he told Sal the story about his secret lover, a Teran slave-servant. Among Vespids, Teran slaves are a sign of wealth and power. You may use them however you please, but it is forbidden to love them. It is also highly frowned upon to ever let a slave have control in the bedchamber. Ezra not only loved his Teran man-servant, but lay beneath him on a regular basis. When the crimes were discovered, both master and servant were beaten, sodomized and left for dead.
Sal never revealed to Ezra the fate of his lover, and to this day, Ezra hopes they will be reunited.
