"You know of course, that they have called this boy my downfall?" Voldemort said softly, his red eyes upon Harry, whose scar began to burn so fiercely that he almost screamed in agony. "You all know that on the night I lost my powers and my body, I tried to kill him. His mother died in the attempt to save him -- and unwittingly provided him with a protection I admit I had not foreseen.... I could not touch the boy."
Voldemort raised one of his long white fingers and put it very close to Harry's cheek.
"His mother left upon him the traces of her sacrifice.... This is old magic, I should have remembered it, I was foolish to overlook it ... but no matter, I can touch him now."
-- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, pg. 652-653

Randomly rereading the Harry Potter books so I can FINALLY read the last one which I still haven't gotten to. I had forgotten how awesome the end bit of the fourth book was. It therefore called for fanart. XD

Yeah, but I think they wanted to tread carefully with him, and not go too far in a sense.
Also...its still a children's book, and hence, the movies are for children, even though just as many adults enjoy it as well. There is only so far they could go. They can't have made him "too creepy" ya know.

Yeah that's very true. In a sense the readers of the books (the ones who started at the beginning when they came out anyhow) have quite literally grown up with the books. It makes sense that they get more mature in subject matter as they progress.
I do still like the Voldemort in the movies in his own respect, the actor does a fairly good job. The books just get his creepy factor across a whole lot better. XD

This is what always happens when I try to read the HP series. I read up to like, the middle of the fourth book, then I get bored and stop reading it for a while. Some time later, I'm like "hmm, I think I'll get back to reading the Goblet of Fire". So I start from where I last left off, only to find that I have basically forgotten everything that happened up to that point in the story, so I have to start the book over, and I do the same thing, again and again and again. It's a vicious cycle
Yeah I get that way a lot too. Basically the end of the fourth book is when things start getting awesome, in my opinion. The story gets a lot darker once Voldy pops up. XD
The only reason I ended up reading it in the first place ( I at first steered away from the series because it was so mainstream and usually things like that are vastly blown out of proportion in relation to their actual awesomeness. ) was because my best friend basically forced me to power-read them all when the 6th book came out. XD
