I've been far away from my family since i was 6 years old, I'm 25 and about a year, my cousin came to live in my city with her son. its the first time i can spend time with a nephew of that age, 4 years old, and he thinks i'm his friend/cousin. Wish a nephew call me uncle.

Aren't your cousins kids still your cousins? I thought nieces and nephews were your sister's/brother's kids! Maybe that's purely cultural now that I think about it.

yeah, in this case I think it's referred to as a second cousin. Which is what you'd call your cousin's kid, or you parent's cousin. It gets really confusing. But at least he doesn't call him Dad like my nieces do.

Actually, those are "first cousins, once removed." Your second cousin is someone whose parents are cousins with your parents.

my niece wants nothing to do with me. I say hi and she completely shuts down. won't even look in my direction and will sometimes run into the other room and slam the door. but as long as I don't say hi she's totally fine.
