He bends and he breaks
If you give they will take away
His passion, his pain, his grace.
He exhales,
A thousand black flowers explode
into butterflies as they're away
Rip them out, take them,
Burn the coals as they crush and
Leave nothing
that resembles the soul of a man
See him numb, see him crushed
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for this song but I've never really tried to visualise it.
I started this a night a go, mostly because I wanted to revamp Bal. I'd been drawing him in my history class, and not only was I sick of his stupidly thin and gangley body, but I'd grown tired of how his face had a tendancy to imitate a cow's in 3/4 views.
So I sat down and 'bulked' him up a bit. After all he's supposed to be some sort of demon thing, he shouldn't be all weedy and thin. I also doubled him the stripes on his arms and legs, and got rid of the two arm markings. I'm still sticking with the eye of horus on his back.
The 'butterflies' were intended to look very messy and splattered, I wanted the image that he had blown in to his hands and out shot the butterflies.
No, I don't know what I'm on about either.

Ah thank you it means a lot! I've been using copics now for almost two years so I've had quite a while to see how they work but I still have a long way to go! I don't think theres much difference between gouache and acrylic, I usally mix and match the two. The only reason I had gouache paints at the time was from a set I managed to craftily 'rehome' from college (:
Oh copics are just <3 but I will admit they are stupidly expensive. I had to buy a new set of greys today which cost me £10 (not sure what that is in dollars). The bristol board to use them on isn't cheap either. I'd certainly recommened working in paint, it would suit your detailed fur style that you can recreate with brush strokes (:
Wow thanks for the kind words, it really does mean a lot (:
I've always thought my copic work was a bit 'dime-a-dozen' so it is very uplifting to hear you say that! I've been able to 'render' fur in copics for a while, but I've always felt when I did anything furless it looked flat and uninteresting so I tried something knew in trying to portay his sort of 'lizard' skin.
And you are so right about the feet! I only noticed after I'd upload so it really was a face palm moment! I mean to edit the description point that out!
