I wonder how much of an advantage having wings/flight in an arena like that is? I'd guess ranged weapons would be out for such a match; way too unfair an advantage, and if you think about it, melee from the air seems limited. You're limited to the strength of your arms, since you can't push of the ground or brace with your legs, and by and large, to get within range of your own attacks, you'd need to be in range of theirs, and hovering really isn't as easy as it's often portrayed. Fly-bys I'd imagine also aren't as easy as fantasy portrays, but a dive bomb could be brutal if it connects.

Certain gladiators had nets. So if you had wings and your opponent had a net, the moment they get your wing, they can ground you and properly attack you.

Ah yes, the retiarius.

If the wings are strong enough to lift the character and their weapon, I feel they'd be able to assist in the attack. I'm sure they're better designed for upward thrust, but they could still probably help with downward as well, to a degree.

Membranous wings would likely be more of a detriment than an asset, considering that a single puncture turns thei use into a far more limited capacity...

What a cool piece of artwork. I love the colliseum in the background and how both characters are dressed like ancient roman warriors. I like how you made the bat character have wings and arms. Flying seems like cheating in this situation but he can use those wings to his advantage.
