I took me quite a long of time to build up the courage to post this song. As you all know, I hate my voice and this song is one that's tough for me to listen to. :P
This was recorded, with my old band, in late '97 at Fort Appache Studios, in Cambridge Ma. Then touched up in mid '98 at Sherwood Forest Studios, in Bedford Ma. It's a 24 trk analog recording. I play drums, Hammond organ and sing. Tom plays all guitars and Jim plays bass.
I wrote this during a really hard time I was going through. At the same time, I was worried about a good friend of mine. This is all 'before' I went full blown furry. Anyways, I combined both stituations as a kind of consoleing effort. I hope you like it more than I do. ^^
This is Shine:
Pay no mind child, it'll change
Let us refrain from all these silly kid games
Dry those eyes there's no need to cry
We all suffer throughout our lives
Release the trigger boy, take my hand
I understand....
I'm there for you (X4)
Every childhood disappointment
Every apology, gone unspoken
All shouded with a smile
It's time for you to shine
I'm there for you (X4)
All this time your bludgened with lies
It's hard to tell what's real
And you lack the confidence to face this life alone
I'm there for you (X4)
Dry your eyes child
No more lies
Give us a smile and shine......
BTW, the thumbnail for this was draw by
pommegranite. It's a rough sketch for a commission she's working on for me. ^^

We tend to hear ourselves differently. I remember, after recording the vocal tracks, listening to the playback, I sunk in my seat and couldn't listen. I wanted to do a few different takes, but the engineer was like, "That was fine. You were on key, what are you hearing that I'm not?" "My voice", I said. *LOL*
Runtt, this is awesome. Very few people could belt out that middle section like that. I know how you feel about being uncomfortable with your own voice; I've been plagued by the same problem. But I'll bet that if you heard this song and didn't know this was *you* singing it, you'd like it a lot. I know I do. :)
Your voice is awesome. Its tone is like a slightly lower-pitched Neil Young, and the song itself is both mixed and recorded very well. Since this is from an analogue recording, is there a copy of this (or any of your music, really) that is of a higher quality than an mp3 file? I'd love to get some full-quality 44.1khz/16-bit or higher copies, even if I have to pay for them. :3
