...what's with all the people asking for me to draw them cuddling lately? I have a few more I have to do in the works, too. Frig, people! xD
On that note, I think this picture is the reason I'm a little artblocky lately. Any time I put a whole lot of effort into a single picture, for a few days after that, my brain doesn't wanna do any serious arting, so I'm hoping in a few days I'll be back to normal x3
Anyway, spent a long time working on this one. I know none of the plant life looks particularly good, and thier anatomy could certainly be better... but you know what? I'm happy with this. Especially the waterfall. There's a few more things I could have done to the waterfall to make it better, but I was afraid to mess it up, it's the first time I've ever done one of these, and it looks pretty good as is, so I decided to stay with what I got. Even the water came out pretty good I think, and let's not forget the fluffy characters, hehee.
I'd personally mark this as one of my best backgrounds to date. Who knows, maybe I am learning some stuff. xD
Anyway, I hope the two of you are happy with the picture, and I hope the rest of you enjoy it as well :3

Gaining experience is a good thing. Spiking your own interest while doing it is more difficult, but I'd say if you'd maybe incorporate something you do like into the scene, it may be easier for you to get into to. Of course, it's up to the commissioner if they'd let you use any extravagant ideas, but it never hurts to ask, right?
Sweet! I like how you detail the environment, that your characters actually are "somewhere", and at a really nice scene :3 Of course they are the important, but anyways the scenery is half of the work, and i greatly apperciate that you actually do this half as well, and very well at that! ;)
The waterfall came out very well *nods* Not to much detail, not too little, it's good how it is.
In fact, the water in general came out pretty well :) Nice diffraction effects :)
*grins* You were right :3 This one was certainly worth waiting for :3
It sounds almost redundant to compliment the fur... but those tiger markings are utterly gorgeous!

That's one thing I've always noticed... almost everyone seems to complain about doing stripes and spots and stuff, but I've always found it really easy and pretty quick. I dunno why... but they don't bug me and usually turn out pretty good x3
Anyway, thanks. I had a feeling you'd like this one, judging from the picture you asked for :P

*nods* I was watching this one with interest from the moment I saw the first sketch :)
*considers* okay, so we're not gonna stump you with stripes or spots... Gotta think up something more challenging...
Actually, one of my friends made a very good suggestion for what could be possibly the ultimate challenge in "can you make it sexy" ... being lobster *chuckles* After seeing some other artists attempts she decided it was better to stop looking...
Pfff... That's an easy bet for you to win... I don't think I've yet seen a picture of yours I don't like :P

Frankly, the water, and the waterfall, are outstanding. That is such a lovely technique you have.
Is this all color pencil? It kind of looks watercolor-ish, but at the same time it seems too grainy to be watercolor (or maybe that's just how your paper/scanner makes things)

White paint. It's the secret to -everything- xD All the waterfall is, is a multicoloured greyish smattering if paint, and then I took white paint and drew in the waterfall. Works like a charm :P
I gotta ask you something about that. A while back I had to switch to an old CRT monitor. It works, but it's a little fuzzy- which actually makes all my pictures look really good 'cause it smooths out the grain xD But that means I can't really tell what they really look like. So I was wondering, do they actually look -grainy-, or do they just look like they have grain? The difference being, looking grainy looks bad, haha.
As for your question... you're on the right track. It's actually both. I use watercolour for the backgrounds and underlayers of the colour, then to add fine detail in the characters, I use pencil. It gives it that look of both of them. Also the fact that I paint on bristolboard gives it a slightly different look, too, giving the actual paint a bit of tooth as well.

Watercolors and color pencil, a perfectly sane combination! :)
And don't worry - your work doesn't look grainy at all. It DOES have the grain that characterizes color pencil, but that is a good thing. Or well, it's as good as no grain, at the very least - I personally tend to prefer real mediums with some grain anyway.

I have to ask...
are you self taught with the use of watercolours? and how old are you??
you are fucking AMAZING!!
because.. I would totally mess it up! An example.. how in the world can you do the markings without maybe messing it up like the orange covers the black blah blah...
Watercolour is tough shit... I am amazed even how you could make the water riffle look so realistic and without the colour slips in to the body!
and the way you do fur... do you like, add the extra deep with a pencil? (the dark)

I'm self taught to use -everything-. I'm not good at following defined lessons xD I can't even follow tutorials and such I find on the internet... so I sorta use those as a starting point and then come up with my own ways of doing things based on those.
Also, I'm not just using watercolours, for that very reason- they're difficult and limit some things. What I do is start with watercolour, and do basic underlayers and pretty much 'flat colours', and then use coloured pencils on top of the paint to add texture and detail, and things like stripes and spots and such.

*laughs* I don't mind it really, I'm just not as good at it. Things are starting to head back in the dirty direction though, so it's all good x3 I'll live. Really as long as I'm doing something the person in question will really be happy with, I'm happy too... so if cuddley-ness makes you happy, then don't get something dirty on my account. x3
