Maybe, I was more thinking on the lines of Dungeons & Dragons.
My Game Master once allowed me to tweak the character creation rules a little so I could play an intelligent Dire Wolf. It was a lot of fun.

Not like the movie, right?

No, not like the Dungeons & Dragons movie.
We were playing the Forgotten Realms setting and the background of my character was that as a cub he helped out a Druid who in thanks 'awakened' him, making him more intelligent and gave my character to speak normally. As he grew there were complications because of his size as well as his species, but also some advantages. It was funny when someone of the group bought a pig or cow for my character to eat. It calmed the population considerably.

Cool.

Reminds me of a character I once played. The Wolf, not the Dancer.
