Jean Arthur, Josephine Baker, Paulette Goddard, Mary Eleanor (my character), Clara Bow, Bartine Burkett, Norma Shearer, and Edna Purviance. They all cut their hair, you can too! There's no shame in cutting your hair. Ladies, your hair is your crowning glory, make it look as amazing and radiant as you are! Think of it, no more tying your long stands of hair into braids and buns to keep it out of the way!
Yes ladies, before the 1920s came to be, your hair was never allowed to be cut. EVER. You just kept piling it up and tying it up so it stayed out of your way, I can't imagine the weight that would put on your head. There were no hair salons, only barbershops. Husbands and sons looked down upon women who had their hair cut, it wasn't motherly. You became boyish and unladylike. So imagine, in the 20s, a celebrity cut her hair to a very short Bob cut (see Jean the bunny above). Despite the gawks and stares, men embraced this new cut women were getting done. It was attractive, it was MYSTERIOUS, it was DANGEROUS. Girls were taught not to get their hair cut because it would make them a dirty girl who vamps men and bucks society rules. Eventually society gave in and the bob cut was here to stay. Even middle-aged women were getting their hair bobbed. They began doing other things to style it like finger-waves, headbands, extreme curls, and long spiraling locks. It was the beginning of hairstyling as we know it today. :)
Don't ya just love information that you don't really need to know? Me too. LOL
