It was no doubt assured that I'd be hooked on Monster Hunter, but as always each of the games come with some monsters people just adore and some people just hate with a passion (I'm sure people can guess which are my favorites by now hehe), one in particular really struck a chord with me... but for a weird reason...
There is this big ol' T-rex looking critter called the Anjanath that is like a Deviljho lite, it has fun flippy out fins along the lower end of it's back and it's nose flares up when it get's enraged, allowing it to breathe fire out of it's nostrils, which sounds absolutely hilarious when it actually does it... pbbbffft!
The biggest problem I have with this critter though is not it's fire, or the insane increase in it's damage, speed and the amazing jumping ability it gets in High Rank, no... it is when it gets hurt and it begins to retreat... IT SOUNDS LIKE AN INNOCENT LITTLE PUPPY! A puppy that YOU hurt and caused to whimper and limp away!
... it makes me so darned sad when I hear the poor little thing do that... maybe I will go get it some Aptonoth to make it feel better...

I've yet to fight Vaal (though I'm at like the step before), but if they whimper anywhere close to Anjanath does I am going to have a bad time... I genuinely felt SO bad for hurting it and hearing that puppy dog whimper along with a limp. >.>
The only critter I hate with every fibre of my being is the angry cotton ball that is Paolumu, it could have been cute but nooo... as a light bowgun user I am just constantly missing shots, being staggered by non-damaging wind and wondering how the hell it remains so mobile despite me breaking both wings and it's air sac, it doesn't even TRY to earn pity points like Anjie does by whimpering and funny sounding nasal fire attacks... ahwell, atleast I can rely on everyone's favorite angreh red puppy to make me laugh when they meet. ^^;

Opinions will vary, but IMO Vaal is worse. If his appearance doesn't get you (or his fight; IMO I love his fight but again opinions) he may just crush your heart with that whimpering. He really does sound like a puppy.
His sounds are as thus:
--RHEEEEEEE!! (Often. Especially if he's in another room and you don't follow immediately. He starts yelling repeatedly until you arrive)
--Dramatic Elder Roars
--Roowrr! (When you interrupt his attacks or stagger him)
--Puppy Whimpers (Paralyzed or critical)
One thing that 'sort of' helps me is head-canoning my own setting into the world. Which I've been doing since MH3U heh. https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery...../Ask-a-Monster More or less, the mons we fight are there because its their job, and it's as much a game to them as it is to us. That's why we just "faint" instead of being eaten alive (anjanath's pinning attack e.g.), incinerated, crushed, or just otherwise flat out destroyed, as well as why we can continue taking a quest when logic should dictate otherwise (Fell the Lagiacrus, Heaven's Wheel, etc. Xeno'Jiiva I may give a pass if the idea he's essentially a phoenix-dragon is one to run on)
The idea that they'll "faint" too and be patched up off-screen helps a bit~ A bit heh. I still try and go for captures whenever possible though heee. My Anjanath KO-Capture ration (KnockOut, not Slay!) is pretty high at 106 / 102 ^^
*ahem* But yeah. If you're not at Vaal yet I really should give ye a couple warnings that will hopefully keep him from being a Trouble Monster.
1. Invest in Miasma skills. Max it if possible. Vaal can damage you just by being near him, and by a fair distance too. Maxing Effluvial Resistance will nullify this damage as well as negate bullet point number 2....
2. If you don't have / don't want to invest in this, bring Nulberries. If you remain in his Effluvial clouds too long or take a direct hit from his Breath Attack (and survive, if you're gunner at the time) it will very likely inflict a status condition on you that cuts your Max HP in half. Nulberries cure this.
3. If you're infected and he rears up on his hindlegs and starts inhaling the stuff, BACK THE ***** OFF AND DO IT NOW. It will kill you, and in seconds. The fact the infected monsters nearby all drop dead when he does this is the only hint the game will give that you do not want to be infected when he starts inhaling it.
4. It may be worth putting Girros's waist armor on for the Effluvial Expert skill, to negate the environmental damage you'll be taking on top of battling Vaal. Alternatively the Clearmind charm, if it's available.

Monster Hunter Stories on the 3DS is one of my favorite games in that regard as you can simply hatch an egg of one of your favorite critters from nests and fight alongside them, ofcourse having a chubby baby pickle was my first goal back when I bought it, it has quite indepth mechanics too where you can take the genes (skills and passives on a 3x3 grid) a monster may or may not have being rng and all, then give it to another, altering them completely, so you can have a Deviljho that has somehow gone from it's tendency to use the Dragon breath that it has and make it focus on agility based attacks and make it Ice instead, a crowd favorite though is the unkillable Uragaan that has an absurd focus on defense, elemental resist and blast blight, inheriting some Brachydios genes for more splodey goodness, all the enemy can do is wail in desperation on this tiny big-chinned wall as it grins wickedly before they explode.
Thankies for the tips though, I've always taken either the Hornetaur or Girros armor piece to resist the Effluvium damage and being a light bowgunner I tend to try and stick close but not too close to targets because I found normal shot more reliable than spread shot as the latter requires too much investment on recoil so you don't stand still for each shot... it can't really target bigger monster's specific body parts very well either hehe.

Would be cool if the 1.2 patch gets localized, I want my kushala on my English file too~

I love how putting Fire element onto kushala not only makes its Ancient Storm attack look awesome, but it makes Kushala look like a Rusted ^^

It likely won't happen which sucks, Capcom only sees a franchise that makes millions as worth putting time into, even if a game like Stories had everyone who owned it enjoying it to heck, Square was the same with Heroes of Light and Bravely Default, it surprised the company itself that it turned out so damn well but because it didn't have a big name attached to it (even if it was a Final Fantasy spinoff) they just decided to milk the puddle of gloop that was Final Fantasy 13 what... 5 times?
I will always have my fingers crossed though for Stories getting a Switch port atleast. Crapcom was being vague about bringing a Monster Hunter title that wasn't quite "Monster Hunter" to the Switch itself but I won't jump to conclusions... I'd just love to have my chubby little pickle and 'splodey puncher back to fight alongside. ^^

I still remember that tech demo hehe, but atleast they gave genuine reasons to why Lagiacrus was cut, dedicating an entire area involving deep water to just one monster that itself would need a lot of time put into being such a large beast and all, yeah that would be a bit too much time for just one critter, at best people can hope for an expansion for Monster Hunter World as I don't see them introducing Lagiacrus into the current world like they plan to do with Deviljho
With how they did such a nice job on the current environments aswell as the mobility and fluidity of hunters and critters alike though in World I'd love to see them tackle a water themed expansion, maybe add some new leviathans alongside bringing some old ones back... maybe they could even be super nice and introduce newer players of the franchise to the unparalleled beauty that was Plesioth and those spicy hip-checks!

Well from what I gather, the reasons they gave weren't exactly all that good. At least the community didn't seem to think so. Lagiacrus didn't need water areas for MHX/XX, other than for a few areas where he switches areas - but you can't reach those parts of the map yourself so its just an aesthetic thing.
At least from what I've been shown and told, it was animation issues and not map design or gameplay. In either case, it didn't really explain why they opted to have Gobul represent the 3rd generation in their Classic Monsters stickerpack. Cute sticker though it may have been, I don't think he was a good pick (The others were Rathalos, Nargacuga, and Zinogre)
Lagiacrus may have been one critter, but he was also a very popular one and a (former) mascot.
Deviljho was already added in though? At least on the consoles aaaa; they've already gotten Kulve Taroth (who is pretty damn big, and her tail's hitbox causes all sorts of shenanigans ><) and Lunastra, along with Final Fantasy's Behemoth. I kinda forgot they decided to launch the PC version at 1.0.0 instead of alongside the console updates ><;
