The entire first chapter dealt with Judy's insecurity at revealing her relationship with Nick to her family and ended on a touching, positive note.
To then have her own twin brother muscle in on Nick just seems cruel.
And if it turns out Nick returns the interest, then we have a case of "who cares about foreshadowing" because nothing in the story thus far has hinted at Nick being bisexual.
