~ NEW CHARACTER INTRODUCTION ~
This is Leonard Canaden, Lonny to his buddies. age 50. He's a mellow beach dude, who used to be an avid surfer on the West Coast back in the early 90's. Later on, he opened up his own surf shop in Malibu with his partner-now-husband. Today, he and his hubby live at Marina Beach, a short 1-hour drive from Makina Bay, where he re-opened his surf business out on the boardwalk there. He's definitely stuck in the 90's, never going anywhere without wearing something dayglo and always talking with a surfer accent. He still enjoys catching waves and flirting with cute surfer twinks on the beach, though only when his hubby gives him the permission to...

If you guys know me, you know how majorly obsessed I am with the late 80's and early 90's, and the classic radical skater/surfer archetype back in the day always got to me. (I'm looking at you, Mondo Gecko...) Watching random clips of characters like that in early 90's movies made me want to have someone that unabashedly 90's in my character roster, so who else than a middle-aged surfer dude who was active back 30 years ago and never grew out of it? His name comes from the Latin name for the North American River Otter, Lontra canadensis,

I kind of like the idea. It's pretty bold to find something you love, stick with it, and keep on as makes you happy in spite of everyone else telling you to give it up because it's out of vogue. All that pressure to either keep up with the Joneses, "settle down and get a job," or sour grapes at still enjoying life on one's own terms at this later stage of life is fertile grounds for reproach by others. Mind you, being of a younger generation, a part of me can't help feeling a little resentful of people like that who were able to buy in such locales before housing prices went utterly insane. Still, being a burly, dilfy otter, I am quite inclined to forgive. :P
