These are neither otters, nor bears, nor terribly closely related to either. They are a distinct lineage of mammals in the order Carnivora. Males may reach sizes up to 900 kg; females are significantly smaller, reaching only 600 kg at breeding weight.
They are social animals, living in various social groups including families, several females/one male and, occasionally, multiple males. Males will fight for dominance, but due to their thick hide, injuries from male-male combat are rarely severe.
Otterbears are obligate carnivores. They are largely piscivorous, though packs will also take down game.
They are an exceptionally long-lived mammalian species, reaching ages of up to sixty years. Females do not reach sexual maturity typically until age fifteen, males somewhat younger. A female typically gives birth to a single autricial pup, and may give birth only one every 2-3 years. Gestation is 115 days on average.
I can't think of anything else to make up about them at the moment.
