Reminds me of a co-worker years ago who had to ride a scooter to work after wrapping his car around a pole while DUI and losing his license. He had some interesting times since he had no brakes and actually had literal 'break shoes' he wore so he could stop himself at stop-signs and lights.
Sounds a lot like what I deal with on the bike... Except we only kinda-sorta have bike lanes here. They put "Ride bikes here!" markings on lanes, but they tend to put them in the stupidest places ever, like just before one lane splits into a turn-only lane that occupies the former "bike lane" space.
I've had to wrap myself around a stop sign when a truck made a right turn with no warning and no signal... I've also gone bouncing along the sidewalk after I dodged some woman with a baby stroller. ^_^;;

My options are "Ride bike", and "walk", so I go with the bike. After being harassed by police about riding on the sidewalk (after two years of living here and riding everywhere), I FINALLY got a straight answer about it, and now know to avoid the downtown area. It's legal outside of downtown, and I'm not about to try to hope cars are willing to share the road here.
