“But at your expense? True, someone might listen to you. But those chances are frightfully slim. People these days don’t like to be told how to live. You can encourage the world around you to live kindly all you want, but take it from an old soul: everyone would be better off living for their own needs and wants.”

“But-But why not think of others while taking care of those needs?”

“Child, you humans have such short existences, it’s almost pitiful. One minute you’re a beautiful little thing, full of hope and promise, and the next, you’re an old woman, wondering over what could’ve been. Thankfully, you’re not beyond hope. ”

“What do you mean?”

“I’d hate to see a rare creature like you throw her life away, trying to please people who won’t understand you, when you could be pleasing yourself or someone who does. There’s no one around quite like me either; the spawn of a draconic mother and a demonic father? An expert on high living and all magic both light and dark? You will learn a great deal from me. I can even extend your life with my tricks; that way, you will have all the time you need to live knowing the best of everything, and under my protection no less.”

“Umm, no thanks, sir. I like the life I live now. I don’t have to live forever or anything. I mean, my faith is secure, so I try not to be afraid of death. I apologize, but I really must be goin-”
