Made this for FCN 09.
Lupus in Tabula is a werewolves/villagers version of the "Mafia" party game. Every night, the werewolves secretly decide to kill someone. Every day, the villagers publicly lynch someone.
Hard to play this game at a werewolf party tho. Gets kinda confusing...

But of course. It's all in the timing~
At this late in the game, the first thing out of a Seer's mouth in daybreak would be the werewolf he investigated, but he didn't come out with it until he was accused, judging from the quotes. He's obviously trying to throw the lynch off of himself onto someone else.

Yup. The orange one is lying. A Seer holding out until there's only five folks left in the game? Unlikely. Plus he's orange, and we all know that orange werewolves are inherently untrustworthy.
I love the game, but the big problem is that you need a pretty large group to pull it off, and then you need to come up with something else to do for the folks who get eliminated early.

I played a game similar to this called Are You A Vampire? Been wanting to try the werewolf version out, but it's hard to find here. I wonder if the specialized cards are different between the two. The vampire one had a seer card I remember, along with several others to add a twist to the game. My favorite is the Lovers card.
ooh! I like lovers. I think our version of 'lovers' is "masons" :P
I don't have a copy. It's an italian game (I think) and it can get pretty big....
If you get enough people, you get the Ghoul: The ghoul wins if it's alive at the end of the game, regardless of how the villiager/werewolf thing played out.
Also, the werehamster: If the werewolves win, the werehamster wins in stead.

Just from looking at this pic, I can tell that this would be an interesting game to play... Only problem is, I've never heard of it before, so I have NO idea how it's played.
Would someone please enlighten me on the rules of this game, before my scientific/analytical type mind gets me started making up my own version from scratch?

Lupus in Tabula is the italian (?) version of "Werewolves of Miller Hollow", which itself is a variation of the "Mafia" game. Google it!
And if you find it, send me the link. :P I haven't had much luck in finding all the rules for the italian version. Here's what I know:
It's a party game, best with more people like 10 or 15.
Everyone gets a card. Each card has a role attached to it. In the simplest version of the game, there are 4 viilliagers and 1 werewolf. Plus, someone has to be the moderator.
The game is played in turns. Each turn has a day and a night phase. During the night phase, everyone closes their eyes and bow their heads "going to sleep" - The moderator then asks the werewolves to "wake up" and wordlessly choose which villiager they eat that night.
During the day phase, the moderator points out who was killed during the night. Now the villiagers know there is still a werewolf in the villiage, and must choose and lynch someone.
Every day, the villiagers kill somene. Every night, the werewolves kill someone. If the werewolves kill enough villiagers, they win. If the villiagers kill all the werewolves, they win.
Simple and boring? Maybe. But the game is about bluffing and acting and hiding your secret. Can you ferret out who is hiding something?
Anyhoo, with that as a basis, Lupus in Tabula is no different from "Werewolves of Miller Hollow", the american version.
What LUpus in Tabula differs in, is the extra roles.
First, there's the Seer. The Seer has a phase during the night where she wakes up and gets to point out a person. The moderator then indicates if it's a werewolf or not.
With just this one addition, you have a whole new level of play: Someone can step forward and claim to be the seer, and point someone out as being a werewolf. But, a clever werewolf would *pose* as the seer, and point out random people for the villiagers to kill and save the werewolves the trouble of killing.
Then there's the bodyguard. The bodyguard has a phase where he indicates somene he is guardng during the night. In an ideal scenario, the seer would identify herself first round and ask that the bodyguard protect her.
The only problem is, the bodyguard can't protect himself...

Hmmm... well, I got a rough idea of what's done from that, but the translated grammar made for a hard time getting the subtle specifics, particularly in the role of the Seer.
And now that I know for certain that this is an actual mass-produced card game, and not a randomly-generated pastime, I think I'd be better off reading the instructions from the box to get that.

I had to +fave this. Playing this game as a variant of Lupus in Tabula on a clan forum. It's quite different that Voodoo and Baptist are mason groups, and there's a necromancer who could revive dead players as zombies and eat people's brains (possibly another mason group). The revelation of a scrabble club? Confusing. Apparently the Baptists can resist being converted to werewolves, choosing to commit suicide instead. Stuff like that.
I remember playing this in my 8th grade history class. My tactic was basically saying that I was one of the werewolves at the beginning of every round, which resulted in me being lynched first. After a few rounds, no one believed me when I said it. I would say it when I was a werewolf, and no one would believe me. It was awesome.
