This is Tabitha Jayram, a young ferret girl from
coracleboat's unfinished story "A Ferret Who Is etc". She is playing the game He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, but with a cruel twist. She is not staying voluntarily with the man who gave her the nice yellow dress, so instead of hoping that he loves her, she is instead worried that he will show "romantic interest" in her.
This scene does not occur in the story - I made it up. It would have had to occurred before chapter 8. Please read the warnings on the story - it is definitely not for everyone. Maybe I got it all wrong, but I considered the story to be a rather touching story about her fate.
As references for this drawing, I used this ferret picture, got some inspiration from this artwork, used a human anatomy book for the basic proportions of the body, and looked at my own hands in a mirror to try to get the hands right. I find hands very hard to draw. I didn't find any good reference picture for a dress that would fit the story, so I just made something up.
I'm not so sure about the proportions. My simple technique of sticking a mostly animal head on a mostly human body has its limitations. Still, I'm quite pleased with the drawing. Go look at this if you want better stuff.

I feel you on that. I've been trying to draw something for the past week and I've never been at all satisfied with it. Well, I've been trying to draw several somethings, just, I can't ever make it look as good as it does in my head. Really need to get my butt to writing again >_>
And hm well... I think Tabitha's been... not-miserable in a few parts of the story :V There's that!

I think I'll have to simplify things more, for example by using a more "cartoony" style. That's probably also harder than it looks like...
I was actually thinking about writing something, but never came up with any interesting ideas, so I'll stick with drawing for now.

Thank you for the kind words! Some years ago, I tried to learn to draw, and got about to this point. That project failed, mostly because I couldn't come up with any interesting ideas to draw at that time. I did some ugly fanart for some webcomics - and when I recently found some of those sketches, I ripped them to shreds because they looked so embarrassing. I'm glad I kept the drawing technique books I bought, and I did look into one of them for this picture.
I actually find drawing creatures exactly face forward a bit easier, because I can apply my favorite cheat - finalizing half of the face and mirroring it in the computer. The real challenge comes when showing something from an angle, and doing a more dynamic and interesting pose. I'm not there yet.
