Charmeleon kept his tail in his paws, using it as a natural torch as he and Flare explored the deeper reaches of the dragons den...Something didn't feel right. They weren't coming across any pokemon...or even other trainers who are taking part in their trials...It was too quiet...too perfect. “Char...Meeeleon...” Charmeleon had muttered out his own name, as was typical with most pokemon. Had Max been here the translation would have equated to “It's too quiet...” Though his trainer had a knack for sending things others couldn't. His awareness was the greatest among his peers so he usually caught onto trouble before Charmeleon would pick up on the source.
“I've got a bad feeling about this...” Flare muttered...practically confirming Chameleon’s suspicions. He turned followed Charmeleon's tailflame a bit longer, but quickly grabbed ahold of his companions paw and jerked him towards one wall, drawing a response from the fire lizard who let out a surprised yelp at being pulled so harshly but went quiet as a ball of fire flew past where he and Flare had been standing previously. Quickly grabbing ahold of one of the well...FLARES he kept in his backpack, He used the fire lizard's tail to light it and tossed it in the direction of their assailers, revealing a Flamedramon to be the culprit. And the look in his eye was not one you'd direct at a friend...no indeed. A flamedramon's natural eye color was red, this one had green eyes...though they were hard to see in the dim light that had been produced, but if one looked a little closer there was a hint of red that shone through every few moments or so.
“Is it...a digimon?” Flare asked, holding his pokegear in his hand. Like Max, He'd personally asked Mr.Smithy to modify his pokegear so it could work as a makeshift digivice...that included knowledge of most known digimon, if he came into contact with them at least. “Let's see...Flamedramon...Armor level digimon. It's got two special attacks, Flame fist and Fire rocket. I'm guessing we got a taste of it's Flame fist just now.” Flare grumbled as he scrolled through his poke gear and found the icon he'd been looking for. “Alright let's fight fire with fire...Spirit!-”
Flare was cut off when Charmeleon held a clawed hand in front of the boy. He gave a shake of his head and kept his eyes trained on their would be assassin. The look in his eyes was nothing short of pure focus...And he wanted this one. He wasn't a digimon but that didn't mean he was helpless against one. “You want to fight him? Alright...” Flare conceded and shrugged his shoulders. “You want me to augment your powers?”
Charmeleon shook his head in response to that. When they'd journeyed with Max a few years back, he'd managed to absorb some of the hybrid's own digimon data...by some means even he didn't understand. But it gave him the abilities that a Charizard might have on their own, and it irritated him. He was grateful for the boost in power it gave him because it let him protect Flare when he needed it most, but right now he needed to prove to himself that he didn't need that extra power. Not until he knew what this Armor class was capable of.
“Fire Rocket!!” The Flamedramon roared out, charging at Charmeleon just as the attack implied...his body was enveloped in hot flames and he was sent rocketing towards the Charmeleon.
Charmeleon was all too eager to welcome the attack, enveloping himself in his own flames as he used Flame Charge to meet his foe...the two meeting right at the middle of their starting positions, claws locked together as they struggled to push the opposing side out of the way. It didn't take long though...the flames around Charmeleon broke apart before Flamedramon's and he was sent sprawling into the wall with a low groan. “It...isn't over...” He mumbled to himself in pokespeak before he leapt back into the battle, avoiding a few Fire Fists, even using some stalagmites as cover to avoid some of the barrage. “That's some strength...Alright then let's see if this works...”
Charmeleon took a deep breath then exhaled black smoke from his jaws, letting it envelope the battle area. He casually stepped into the smoke and shut his one good eye...or rather his one organic eye...he other eye he kept wide open...He'd lost one of them in a Sharpedo accident, and since then he'd had a replacement eye that gave him all sorts of advantages in and out of battle...one of which was a heat sensor...And even through the smoke he was able to pick up the Flamedramon's heat signature but that wasn't all...He could see another near by. And it was circling around to Flare's direction. “Spirit evolve! Now!”
“Char! Meleon! Char!” Was what Flare heard. He didn't know what Charmeleon was saying but he understood the tone of his voice well enough. Something was wrong, and he was just about to hit the spirit evolution button on his Pokegear when he suddenly noticed a green blur charging his way. When he spotted the silvery shine of a dagger, he thought that this was the end...he didn't have the reflexes in human form to avoid an attack like that up close...
Cling! Hackmon appeared in front of Flare, his paws having grabbed the blade that had been hidden in a green anthro lizard's wrist guard. Looking into the green lizard's eyes...he was garbed in full assassins gear as if he'd come straight out of a video game, eyes glinting the same red despite his actual eye color being yellow. “I guess Max was right...the Firecracker trainer always manages to get himself into trouble...Baby flame!!” Hackmon cried out, shooting a small wave of fire from his jaws. He didn't expect the attack to deal much damage but it did the most important job and got the green lizard to step back to avoid the burning.
“Looks like we made it...” Max rushed in towards Flare, holding an orb of light in his hand, which would explain how they got through the cave without a whole lot of effort. “Can you explain why you have a digimon and a lizard picking a fight with you?”
Charmeleon allowed himself to relax somewhat...With Max and Hackmon in the vicinity he didn't need to worry so much on Flare. The downside was his smokescreen had almost completely dissipated and his armored foe was already back on the offensive, charging at him and throwing punches left and right, which if only for Charmeleon's short stature and nimble disposition, he was able to avoid them with careful efficiency. “Something's wrong here...” Charmeleon mumbled, avoiding the Flamedramon's punches with ease, and even managed to use his tail to trip the larger reptile up. He looked again into the dragon type's eyes and it hit him. “We need to knock these guys out! Don't go for the kill!!” Charmeleon roared out. With Max nearby, he knew his meaning would be well received.
Max relayed the information to Flare and Hackmon, the latter of who was staring down the Lizard, carefully watching his every move and even stepping in response to the green reptiles own movements. “SO we just need to knock them out right?” Hackmon was more confirming it for himself than really asking a question. “Then I won't even need to digivolve.” Suddenly, the small white dragon surged forward, the Lizard's reaction time lazier than it should have been, and it was then that Hackmon understood the Charmeleon's meaning. “TEEN RAM” Hackmon shouted, his tail rotating much like the drill of a Dorulumon and slammed into the leather armor of their would be assassin, piercing through it and even some flesh as the tail somewhat lodged itself in the Lizard's stomach. There was a cough from the lizard as a shiny red stone no bigger than a thumbtack came flying out of it's muzzle, dropping onto the floor with the sound one might hear of someone dropping a penny. After that it had passed out. Max quickly approached the two and with his orb of light started mending the wound that Hackmon had created.
Charmeleon was relieved that they got the meaning of his words. And stared down his own opponant, the Flamedramon, as it was getting set to throw itself back at him with another fire rocket. “I got something for YOU big guy. This time you won't knock me aside!” The fire lizards arm started glowing bright white as he waited for just the right moment before his glowing fist connected right into the Flamedramon's horn. He growled as the strain from using the move was forcing him back, and he thought he might not be able to win this battle, when suddenly he heard a SNAP and then the horn simply shattered. Not a second later, his fist connected with the flamedramon's right cheek and sent him flying into the nearest wall and creating a rather sizable dent in it. “And that...boys and girls...is what you call a Dynamic punch...” Charmeleon panted heavily, noticing that in the midst of the cracked blade horn was a single red shard. “Now what do we have here...” He was about to reach down to grab it when a sudden roar shook the room.
“Don't touch it!!” Roared Scavenger, who ran towards Charmeleon, and grabbed his paw before it came into contact with the shard. “You'll become crazed too.” Scavenger took a deep breath, and reached for the shard and placed it in a small empty see through container. He did the same with the one that'd come out of the lizard as well.
“If they're that dangerous that you'd go crazy then why are YOU touching them?” Hackmon asked, approaching the orange dragon with mild curiosity “You seem uneffected.”
Scav shot a stern look in Hackmon's direction, then his look softened and he relented. “Pick up these two and bring them back to the pokemon center...I'll explain everything there.”
“Fine...but can I carry one of them in my belly? I'm starved!” Charmeleon asked, rubbing over his stomach as it growled, wanting food. “I promise I'll let them out when we get back!”
Max translated the request to Flare, who shook his head. “Not yet...We don't know if you'll go crazy eating them. If you want though once we get an explanation I'll let you eat ME!” Flare promised, a smile on his face as Charmeleon's own face lit up.
“Hey Max...Can I eat the lizard guy? I mean...that breakfast did nothing to fill me up and it's already past lunch.” Hackmon asked, already lifting the Lizard onto his back, and dragging both himself and the unconcious lizard out of the cave.
“How about if you behave I'll let you have me again? I'm sure these two won't be happy waking up inside your stomach...especially with the way YOU eat...I was stewing in acids and hot cocoa all night you know!” Max complained, which between the two of them was fairly normal after having been eaten.
It only took about twenty minutes to get from the dragons den, back to the Pokemon center, and after making sure both the Lizard and Flamedramon weren't in any serious danger of deletion or death, Scav finally explained his reasoning.
“I'm going to be blunt...and I don't think you'll understand even after I've explained everything to you...so I've had these made so you can understand.” Scavenger tossed both Flare and Max a pair of Goggles. They looked fairly ordinary, except for the fact that they glowed a deep purple around the head band. “I want you to watch carefully...” Scav called out, holding his hand towards the dresser, and extended his palm. Suddenly a wide oval shaped portal appeared before them, the destination...given the tranquil looking cot in the back, and the Guilmon tending to the garden outside indicated that this was a portal to the digital world.
“That's my grandpa. But why are you showing us this exactly?” Max inquired with a puzzled expression.
Pointing to the goggles, while using one hand to keep the portal active, he replied. “Put on the goggles, and tell me what you see.”
Flare and Max looked to one another, then strapped the Goggles onto their faces, but what they saw next made them nearly fall out of their seats. They could still see the other side of the portal clearly enough...but surrounding the portal, both inside and out was a crimson shade of spider like webs that crisscrossed inside of it. Max reached his hand through and the net seemed to just flex and stretch, a moment later his hand was on the other side. He pulled back out and the net had fixed itself back into it's original position. “I don't get it. What are we seeing here?”
“Here? It's what I see every day. Just a little less refined...YOu see the webbing inside of the portal right? Imagine seeing not only that in portals I create, but even around you.” SD closed the portal and focused entirely on Max. “It's hard to explain but I'll try to be as straightforward as I can. I'm sure you know of the barrier between the human and the digital world right? Well it doesn't just span between the worlds..they're intertwined. Threads that keep the reality of both worlds in a stable orbit around one another. You could say the human world and digital world are like two sides of the same coin.” He took a deep breath. “So imagine the net you saw...as the middle ground...the part that splits both sides. When I open a portal it thins that net and allows you and me to pass through, after we've gone past that middle ground, the net starts to stitch itself back up and the door closes. When a portal isn't active however...the net becomes a wall.” He suddenly lifted up the small bottle that contained the two red shards. “These two...are a part of that wall in physical form. You being able to see them at all is an abnormality...only Spacial dragons of my clan have the capacity to see the portal for what it truly is.”
“right...” Max understood somewhat. It explained why the two worlds didn't just collapse on each other, but then another question popped into his mind. “So then how did they appear here? And why was it such a bad thing to touch them?”
Scavenger shrugged, looking at the sleeping reptiles and simply shook his head. “I couldn't tell you. The barrier between the worlds doesn't just break apart. It's not like a wall of bricks that can be broken by a sledgehammer or a wrecking ball. As for WHY it wasn't a good idea to touch them is because they aren't of this world. There were measures that even we Spacial dragons don't fully understand...but to put it simply...the wall was created so that not just anyone could cross over into different worlds. And the wall was created as well as a deterrent...if someone actually managed to get into the space between worlds and approach the wall, it would corrupt them. They would go made and remain trapped in the infinite tide of the space in between. You could say it's a punishment to warn all creatures to remain where they rightfully belong.”
“I think I follow...But is it even possible to break the wall? I mean by force that is.” Hackmon asked the question this time, his stomach growling below him breaking his concentration a second later.
“Normally no. It's not made of any minerals...not like you see here in the glass. It's foundation is unknown but as far as I know, The four sovereign of the digital world could hammer down all at once on the wall and it wouldn't so much as take a scratch...” Scav looked down at the floor, as if in thought, then placed the glass with the two shards in a pouch on his belt. “I'll take these two to the Tamer HQ. I'm sure Fang will be delighted to have new guests there. And we can figure out how to get them back home.” Scavenger smiled bright, picking up both the lizard and the Flamedramon and hefting them up on his shoulders. “I'll also contact a few of my associates...let you know if I find out anything.”
Max and Flare gave a short nod, handing Scavenger the goggles back and watching both him and Agumon step through another portal, the destination neither could discern given that the dragon covered up their point of view.
“Well Max...sounds like you have a lot of work cut out for you...” Charmeleon muttered, eyes glancing at the floorboards. “If you need our help for this one just give us a call. We'll be happy to help you save the world!” Charmeleon gave him a thumbs up.
“Heh thanks. Well don't you want to take care of something first?” Max asked, turning to Flare who was starting to tip toe to the door.
When Charmeleon caught sight of what his trainer was trying to do he grinned. “Oh no! You already promised!” With that he leapt onto Flare's back, knocking the poor kid to the ground.
Flare stared up at the Charmeleon and smiled nervously. “Erm...Guess I can't back out can I?”
Charmeleon shook his head, and opened his mouth infront of Flare, giving him a good view of that pink, fleshy exterior. His tongue twitched some in anticipation and a bit of drool fell onto Flare's forehead as he looked into that fang filled cavern and watched it slowly inch it's way closer...the heated breath steaming infront of his face before he was unceremoniously being shoved inside.
Fire types weren't hot headed for nothing...and their bodies weren't cold! The heat inside of Charmeleon's maw was sweltering...and he felt the first gentle tug of his companions throat pulling him further inside. It wasn't the first time he'd been eaten by his own pokemon...and he had Max to thank for it! Flare groaned as he inched his way further into Charmeleon's body. It didn't take him long for his head to push through the sphincter that made the entrance into his partner's stomach...and boy was it hot...It was dark...but his eyes slowly adjusted to the low lighting...which he did have some light thanks to the fire that naturally resided wthin the fire type pokemon...and that also explained the steam that he found himself surrounded by, as he curled up inside of the diminutive pokemon.
Outside, Charmeleon was finishing up on his meal and let out a hearty belch, giving his stomach a few pats as it bulged out with Flare's form.
“And now it's your turn!” Hackmon grinned, jumping up at Max, to which Charmeleon simply laughed as the dragon claimed his meal.
It was odd...was he dreaming? It felt like something had ran him over by a truck but he couldn't figure out what it was... The green lizard awoke in a rather plain looking white bed, his assassins gear having been piled up on a chair next to his bed and his more casual wear being what he had on. “Was I...dreaming?” He tilted his head to the side, before turning to see his Flamedramon companion had been sleeping in a bed right next to him, still asleep. “Well...Jake is here at least.”
“Ah you're awake!” A purple furred beast type digimon walked over, holding a tray of bacon and eggs and set it over the lizards lap. “You've been through the wringer it seems! Scavenger said you had a hole in your gut when he brought you in! My name is Doru, the Dorumon! I run the Garuru Tavern downstairs. What's your name?”
“Oh...mine?” The lizard scratched his head as he looked over the Dorumon before answering. “My name is Drake...Drake Daigo. Where am I? This doesn't feel like home...”
“Yeah that sounds about right...Scavenger can explain it all to you when he gets back. He was pulled in on another assignment shortly after he brought you two to base.”
Drake nodded a few times, sat upright and winced as he felt a pain in his stomach and lifted up his shirt to see a scar along his stomach. “According to Scav...Hackmon had to rough you up a bit to get you to come to your senses. But you're alive! That's all that matters.” Doru smiled wide, giving Drake a pat on the leg before handing him a bell. “You should rest...If you need anything just ring that bell!”
“I will...thanks!” Drake replied with a smile of his own. He didn't think the little digimon was bad. He'd cooked him breakfast and from what he could tell had done his best to patch him and his partner up. He grabbed a piece of bacon and started munching down on it.
Back in the human world, In a small wooded area that had been abandoned for some time now...there was a large hulking figure stomping around in the land. Most of the pokemon tended to avoid the creature, a few who were unlucky enough to get caught in it's lasso was suddenly pulled into it's maw and unceremoniously devoured. As the sun was starting to set, the sillouette of the creature was coming into view. It's black leather hat shone somewhat in the fading light with the mega charizard stone giving off a faint glow. It's large belly wobbled with each step it took as it swallowed down it's next victim. It became more clear that the creature was a massive Charizard, as it stared forward into the darkening woods. It's blue eyes showing a faint red tint in them as he stomped forward.
