A little change before going back to furry toon erotica...
I am a great fan of Oshii mamoru's creation, the Kerberos (two live films, Akai Megane and Straydog Kerberos Panzer Cops, one animated film, Jin Roh, three manga, one radio drama, MANY goodies...), and I've been doodling many Kerberos-like armors since ten years.
Oshii is obsessed by a few things, young girls, tanks, helicopters, water, birds and dogs (see his Patlabor and Ghost in the Shell films for example to realize this), and he developped and upgraded his Protect Gears face masks to look more and more like dogs. It was relatively easy to create furry versions of this PG-like armor from then...
Don't bother the helmet on the upper left, I tried a sci-fi/space version of the thing but I failed.

Besides, technology is not that high to have mind readings : we are in the Kerberos world - between the fifties and today, not the future like in GITS.
As for the jaws, it's all the same in the Kerberos worls, the armor does give limited jaw movement, just enough to speak through radio, but not much - no external sign of movement

Amazing stuff once again. Still never got japanese battle suit armor though. Seems like you would something more sleek then covered with random vents, and and stabby knee pads and the like as not to get hung up in battle on something. But then it wouldnt look as cool :P Love the design features!
In the original Kerberos design, the armor plates are to cover strategic points, such as knees, crotch, chest, face... Remember it is not an armor for military battles purpose, Kerberos is designed for anti-riots, anti-terrorists activity. So it is a little more heavy than the regular police protections, but it's not a total armor either.
Thaaaanks !! :)
Well, the Jin Roh story takes place in a FAR MORE wider story that implies the manga, the live films and even the radio drama... So you see, perhaps you didn't like the story because it was... a little anecdotal ? :)
Explanations can be found in one link in the link I gave higher.

Don't get me wrong, when I say "young girls", it's a rough translation of the french term "jeunes filles", which means girls from 16 to 25 or the kind of thing. And nothing sexual, or you'll have then to admit his affection for birds, dogs and mechs is of the same kind, and having met him personnally, I'll tell you I don't think it's the case... XD
Mmmmh, well... I know I made a great jump in design when I studied and followed four japanese mecha designers : Kawamori Shji (Macross/robotech, Patlabor 2, Cyber Formula...), Izubuchi Yutaka (Dunbine, Patlabor, Escaflowne...) Shirow Masamune (Dominion, Appleseed, Ghost in the Shell...) and the ex-studio Artmic designers, Aramaki Shinji (Megazone 23, Gall Force, Bubblegum Crisis, Final fantasy the movie...), Yamane Kimitoshi (Megazone 23, Gall Force...) and the others.
There are two kind of designs, the very round (Shirow/Izubuchi), something quite hard to draw at first but that gives much effect when you master it, and the more "squared" ones, all the others.
You have to pay attention to the little details, like Kawamori's and Izubuchi's "trademark" holes typical of those two artists, the antennas, the sensors typical of the Artmic studio. That is what made me progress, and you can find all those nice details integrated in my own designs.
BTW, you've already got a GREAT mech design style, hard to believe you're asking me for advices... ^^''
If you want to discuss that with me (for some visual documents for example) through personal mail, you're welcomed... :)
