
Yes It is a video record played by a needle. The disc is electronic. Variations in capacitance produce the picture, and sound.

This format made by RCA only lasted from 1981 to 1986. I have had two discs for this player Star Wars, and The Empire Strikes Back for many years without a player.
Hoping to find a player, but never found one in the wild. Finally decided to get one on Ebay. This one is a RCA Selectavision model SJT 200 made in 1984.
Had to fix this one by replacing the melted loading belt, and lubricating it.
Took the top off to show the record inside.
Had to get Disney's Robin Hood also found on Ebay.

OMG! The guy in that video has a copy of The Last Unicorn on CED?! Wicked! (How dare that mortal call it "cheesy"!) we had most of those same movies that guy was showing off! We watched them so often, I can still remember the intro themes, back when those were a thing! (Back before movies had trailers on them!)
