Part of a new collection of earrings, following on from the animal tails I made earlier. During time in Botswana, I sketched the tail feathers of several bird species in the area (from photographs of course) as earrings. The forms and feathers make for interesting subjects and allow me to try new techniques.
This is the tail of the male Shaft-tailed Whyda . Over all it was a fairly simple project, using silver wire which I cut to length and soldered together in a square. I made the paddles by hammering the wire flat at the ends and filing off the rough edges to get it to shape. That actually proved to be the trickiest part of the making process, but I am happy with the results.
- Weight of silver = 0.4g Sterling (each)
- Dimensions = 3.5cm long
- Time taken = 2.5hrs
- Price = R600 [SOLD]
