Who doesn't love back to school weather, even if you're in your 50's, and so busy as head of the University's prestigious English department that you barely have time to enjoy the October colors? Thankfully, for Sarah, whenever work gets too stressful, all it takes is for him to show up during her office hours with a pumpkin spice latte, or a thermos of hot cider that he'd had simmering on the stove to come to her rescue. No matter how many writing workshops she has to coordinate, or online programs to review, revise and update, all it takes is just one hug right against her hound's magnificent middle, and she can smell it on his cardigan- fresh-fallen crisp leaves, and the scent of a home filled with plentiful harvest-time fare; apple and pumpkin pie, even more scents lingering on his fur as he leans in to nuzzle between her ears- cinnamon and nutmeg with clove and bright orange slices, along with sweet brown sugar. As the saluki sinks in against that pillow of softness his grand belly and chest make of his cardigan, Sarah finds the cozy pleasures and full comforts that autumn has to offer, right at her fingertips.
