Most of my oil paintings were done on smooth primed masonite. Since I worked in layers using very little paint per layer, the finished pieces were virtually glass smooth. Later on I started using canvas boards since I found them slightly quicker to dry and gave the paintings a 'proper' painted look and feel. This piece was a smaller 12 by 16 painting.

Jsut as snobby also. They are beautiful horses but not much between the ears. My last horse (not Tari) was a pure bred Arab mare and she was way too flighty to enjoy. She hated everyone and everything, even other horses. Fortunately I found a good home for her and she seemed to get along with her new owner well.
Arabians are love. Whats kind of ironic is that I was just discussing with my husband the oter day, that I wanted to find an amazing equine artist to do a painting of my mare. I had to give her up after having her for 13 years due to finances and having a baby ;_; Family had to come first, totally broke my heart. So I was wondering if you do commissions? It may be awhile for me to afford such amazing work, but if I get a some what number to work towards I will definently due so. I LOVE your work.
I have had a few local horse friends ask the same question. Truth is I really don't want to get back into painting, at least not for a while. Painting horses is very specific and if you don't get it jsut right the buyer is not satisfied and you are stuck with a painting of someone's horse no one wants. I would prefer to paint fantasy if I ever got back into that media.
I love the colors in this. And the degree of detail is just enough that it makes you "fill in" extra details with your own eyes, like in the trees. I like that, it makes a painting live. Also, for all your horse paintings, you capture something about the gaze / look in their eyes...
perfect as a picture of an Arab. They are pretty and intelligent. This one reminds me of a dapple grey Arab I used to ride named Zodiac. You have an amazing talent for capturing image of animals in your artwork, but I'm sure you must hear that all the time.
