¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯Some more baby Iolite! The "survival mode" behavior she'd still be in for a few days after finding Kris and them wouldn't be as refined as the "human mode" she'd be in once she adjusted, and would have some animal-like instincts left over from their creators mostly focusing on the behaviors that increased survival rate or things that might hinder them. Which, mixed with how fast she warmed up to the family and how caring they are towards her (while she's still in survival mode), means that she may still do some things like kneading while she's happy and comfortable!
And a fun fact, "Wow!" as an interjection started in Scotland in the early 1500s, which is where she was supposed to live a century after that, so it would be in her vocabulary from birth as a way to express her excitement!
