So,
Jelethorim liked my Troglodytes so much, he decided to commission me! Yay! So I'm drawing a character of his. Dunno the name, but it's a dragon of some sort, all D&D style with a breastplate and a flamberge. He didn't say whether he wanted the greatsword style of flamberge or the rapier style, but since the character is wearing a breastplate and is kind of paladin-ey, I thought greatsword. I've been given a lot of artistic license on this, so this is what I thought I'd draw. We'll see what Jelethorim thinks of it...

Glad you like it! This is still in the sketch faze of course, so easy to fix. Is there anything you want changed before I enlarge it and start the pencil work on what will eventually be the ink?
Oh, and how did I do on the sword? I was a bit nerveous on that, but you said I could use artist license, so, I went with the German greatsword style flamberge with a ricasso and flukes...

Well, if you could make the sword a little longer and a little thicker, that'd be great, otherwise, it's a bitchin' sword. Hmm. I can't see anything I want changed - he gives off the presense of being a big man, but very contemplative inside, like he's fighting off all the evil alone, but won't bend, even if his sword breaks.
For the background, I like the mist-effect. I know it's just an idea, but him alone, in the mists, has a very poetic sense to it.

Not a problem(on the sword). As for the background, I was actually going to go with a summer day in the forrest - the horizon obscura(background looking fading) was going to come from dust in sunbeams. Would you prefer a chill mist effect instead? It will make his blue-green color stand out a little less(misty light is less intense) but would be a lot easier to do.
A warm summer day doesn't fit his face. It's open, clear, and while dream-like, it's not his personality. He'd be boerd in such a place, and would want to hunt down the mists, and stalk the demons and devils inside.
The mists are lonely and dangerous. But it's his job to make sure it's safe.

Mists it is! Also, you asked your sword be made a bit "thicker"
Do you mean you want the blade to be wider? More cartoony, yet impressive looking? Because I've come up with a design I like a lot more. It's very close to what I've done here, but heftier and more anime-ish. It also has some more fantasy elements and is a bit more decorative...

Loving the exchange of ideas going on here. I always find it interesting when there's an opportunity to see parts of the creative process; ideas being built up and hammered out. The dialogue between you two is filling in a lot of background information one normally doesn't get to see with a pic. (Woo, comments about comments! Don't see those often! XD )
Art wise, I'm liking that sword design, but I'm really curious to see what kind of artistic modifications are in store for it... :)

I'm afraid I can't take the credit for most of the sword's design. That being said, I can't really credit the original artist either. He or she lived probably about 800 years ago in Germany somewhere. The hilt was my work(with guidance by Jelethorim) but the blade, the Ricasso and the flukes are all traditional German flamberge.
