The design's function is that it creates a gravity distortion field shaped like a very elongated spheroid, that contain the entire ship inside.
The ship's controls let the field be adjusted to create a "flow" of the gravity field, propelling all materials inside the core of the field with mostly equal force in a given direction, it's most efficient in regards of acceleration in the forwards and backwards direction of the ship, but also gives the ship decent maneuverability in three dimensions.
This solution solves the issue of high G-s of acceleration of the system as only minor gravitational distortions can be felt going through the body of anyone inside the field when in fast acceleration (not recommended for weak stomachs though :D ).
The deflection near the field emitters is the side effect of this field's creation, it's somewhat useful against objects on the way to hit the relatively vulnerable emitters, but the ship primarily relies on more standard kind of shield emitters for defense.

I've imagined travel and other practical uses that include the mechanics of parallel universes in my setting, but I don't have a lot of written/drawn info about it yet, one though is a bit older picture of mine "Delve into a dying universe", it has a visualization of it.

this is by far the most lazy being on that planet, not even parking that ship and going there to fish, no, waiting in a very comfortable seat on a flying ship on a waterfall and waiting for fish to spear themselfes :V

Sometimes though he just goes out without any gear, by himself, and hunts like in ye olde times. :)
Also, I had an idea of a picture that is kind of a prequel to this one, where the ship flies closely over a large body of water and Nresiil holds on to a beam of the ship's ramp with one hand with the spear in his other hand, looking down and aiming towards silhouettes of fishes in the water below him. That would make him look a bit less lazy maybe :D
