here I am! I think i've mostly locked in that final look for my scalesona for the last five years.
A full artistic ref sheet, not annotated cause I didn't want to muddy the picture up with a bunch of text so:
BLOTCHES: There are blotchy spots all over Krayne's body where there are no stripes. The specific location of these blotches doesn't really matter, nor does their blotchieness. As long as there are distributed and spaced evenly but randomly.
SPECKLES: These are the really tiny spots that fill in the space between the blotches and stripes. These are only necessary for high-detail / shading levels. There are more dark speckles than light ones.
STRIPES: Each stripe is skin3 with a thin band of white at the top of each one. Number of stripes is not important. Lower number of stripes as detail level goes down. I don't really count these I just make em more or less evenly spaced from head to tail. When the stripes make it to the top of the head, the light stripes separate from the dark ones and get progressively thin going down the snout.
I don't bother putting the white part of the stripes on the eyeridge stripes because they aren't really necessary but you can add the white if you want.
BLUE BELLY: Belly is iridescent blue and the intensity of the blue goes up and down depending on Krayne's level of arousal, going from almost invisible (layer opacity <5%) to super vivid (layer opacity 100%.) I used an opacity of 66% here because full blue looks way too intense against the rest of the Krayne in this neutral lighting.
Blue neck patches are always there blue don't change on the fly, merely getting less intense with age.
Inner borders of blue belly have a stripe of black. This black remains no matter what opacity bluebelly is
SKIN 1:
Krayne can change his skin color from light to dark at will, depending on situation. Dark features (skin3) go away completely leaving only the white speckles and stripes. Blue remains
SKIN 2: will lose saturation as skin 1 darkens.
TAIL: Exactly as long and as thick as shown here. When at rest, it only just touches the ground
