Today, as an adult, Brittany is a highly skilled enchantress who uses her magical abilities to run the world's only magical sex shop: Lewd Brews. But before she met Nathan she was just a regular blue eyed teenager
Brittany jumped as the door to her bedroom flew open.
“Figures this is where I would find you!”
Brittany was sitting on the floor to her room, surrounded by books, ingredients in little glass jars, and what looked like a child’s chemistry playset. “Jesus! Jessie…” the husky whined while the water she’d been carefully pouring down the narrow neck of her Erlenmeyer flask now dripped from her soaked paws. “Good thing this is just water… knock next time wont’ you?”
The husky turned to face Jessie, who was standing in her doorway and glaring at her, as if she’d caught her girlfriend with another lover! The feline seethed with an anger that defied her tiny size: purple eyes narrowed while her long tail twitched irritably behind her. The grey furred furry marched into Brittany’s room angrily, her short fur standing on end.
“I told you I was coming over.” Jessie said, strutting around the room like an angry rooster.
Brittany opened her mouth to object, but then shut it again trying to suppress her giggling. She knew her girlfriend was angry, and laughing at her would hardly help matters, her little angry walk was just so cute! Jessie wiggled her hips before jumping up onto Brittany’s bed, landing on the large, heavy mattress with a light flop. The tiny feline was like a pebble in the ocean while laying on a bed built for the massive canine.
Now that Jessie was settled Brittany turned her attention back to her ruined potion with a heavy sigh. The husky had to be quite precise in her measurements while brewing her magical concoction. With no means to cipher how much water had ended up into the flask, versus how much had been sloshed down the side and onto her paws, shirt, or carpet Brittany would have to start all over!
“I’ll be back.” Brittany sighed heavily.
“Don’t mind me. Take your time.” Jessie said in a haughty tone.
Brittany bit back a response, feeling stung. She was the one that should have been angry! It was her potion, not Jessie’s, that had been ruined after all. Yet even with her back turned Brittany could practically see the feline roll her violet colored eyes: sarcasm dripping from her tiny voice.
Muttering under her breath Brittany crossed the hallway into the bathroom, tossing the ruined elixir down the toilet with another heavy sigh. The young enchantress did not have time for such costly mistakes! Because Jessie was certainly right about one thing: summer vacation was almost ending, school started next Monday, and between homework, going to class, and her chores Brittany’s time to work on her magic was going to be greatly reduced. She turned to the sink to rinse out the flask, and caught a glimpse at her stubbornly blue eyes in the mirror. God she hoped this potion was successful! She longed for the green eyes of her mother. Whenever Brittany mentioned wanting green eyes people tried to convince her that her big blue eyes where beautiful, but they all failed to understand that Brittany didn’t dislike her blue eyes. She just wanted green ones! Green eyes where just so pretty, particularly on a redheaded girl. And Brittany had to be the reddest redhead of all time, given the thick, red, husky fur that ran the entire length of her back.
“Here’s what I want to know.” Jessie said as soon as Brittany walked back into her bedroom. “What kind of teenaged girl invites her girlfriend over to read a book? While her parents are on vacation!”
“Well…” Brittany said, sitting back down beside her bed among her many jars of ingredients, books, and potion tools. “You invited yourself over her technically.”
“Well excuse me for wanting to see you!” Jessie said sarcastically, her tail twitching in agitation. “I was wondering if you wanted to actually do[/i] something this summer.”
“We’ve done stuff!” Brittany protested, leaning forward to grab her jar of pine needles, shaking it pointedly. “Remember that hike in the Gorge when we collected these?”
“Fine.” Jessie conceded, but still rolled her eyes. “But [b]one hike through the Gorge does not a summer make!”
Brittany fell quiet for a minute, wordlessly picking up her mortar and pestle to grind up the pine needles. Truth be told, she did feel a little bad. This summer had meant the world to Jessie, as she considered it the last hurrah of their youth. Next summer, Jessie had promised, would be too filled with college prep to have time for fun. On the other paw Brittany didn’t feel as if she’d wasted her summer! She’d learned a lot with her experiments, and hopefully it would pay off with a lovely set of green eyes to start the school year with!
With a beaming smile at the thought of her new green eyes she poured the freshly ground pine needles into the flask and then moved on to the snail shells. There was some really nasty stuff in this potion Brittany was making, and she wasn’t entirely sure it was correct.
“What is it you’re trying to do?” Jessie asked with a disgusted sound to her voice as she watched Brittany work.
“Trying to change my eye color to green.”
“Really?” Jessie asked in amazement. Brittany was hardly ever the vain type, she was lucky to have natural beauty because the husky sure wasn’t going to wake up an hour early to do her hair and makeup! Yet Brittany’s blue eyes seemed to really brother her. “You want green eyes this badly?”
“Yes. I do.” Brittany responded through gritted teeth, tired of having the ‘blue eyes/green eyes’ discussion. Deep down Brittany understood she was being silly, but that wasn’t going to stop her.
“I mean… I hate to be the voice of reason here, but how do you know this stuff won’t kill you?”
“I’m… reasonably sure.” Brittany said, although admittedly she really hadn’t considered making herself ill with her potion making… she didn’t think pine needles where poisonous after all.
“Damn that Dr. Montgomery.” Jessie sighed deeply.
Dr. Montgomery was their Hybrid History teacher, and it was he that Jessie blamed for Brittany’s magic obsession. Dr. Montgomery had been lecturing on Project Furball, the top secret US military research project that was, allegedly responsible for the existence of Furs like Brittany and Jessie. To believe Project Furball was responsible for Fur creation was, in Jessie’s opinion, already a jump to conclusions. After all the project was concealed by so much cloak and dagger none could be completely sure it even existed, let alone what they’d been trying to accomplish or how’d they done it. But to go a step further, and suppose that magic had been the cause? Jessie couldn’t understand what made the usually smart and skeptical Brittany believe in it so strongly.
Jessie sighed while watching Brittany carefully, for the second time, pour water over her dry ingredients. A smile crossed the husky’s lips, glad that was over. It seemed that she always managed to spill some water or add just a splash to much. She slowly swished the content of the flask, mixing them together while being careful not to spill before setting the container on the bunson burner.
“Death seems like a big risk for eye color.”
Brittany shrugged her shoulders, sitting back and reaching for her soda while waiting for the contents of her flask to heat up. “It’s not about the eye color. It’s about the research.”
The burner was hot and the flask was small so it didn’t take long for the potion to start boiling, although it felt like an entirety for the the two girls. Brittany snatched the flask off the flame as the surface of the light green potion started rolling and bubbling. Jessie’s small nose twitched: it did smell nice, she had to admit. Brittany’s bedroom started smelling fresh and clean like the forest after a rainstorm.
“The potion should take on a earthy, natural scent and it’s color should closely resemble the shade of green desired. Continue stirring counterclockwise for 5 minutes or until the potion has cooled.” Brittany anxiously read allowed from her magic book, even though she could have recited the recipe from memory now. The old dusty tomb creaked ominously as Brittany slowly turned to the next page with extreme care, her blue eyes narrowed with concentration while she double checked her work. “Prefect! Almost ready.” Brittany said while stirring her brew, starting to feel nervous. Months of work and hard study had gone into this concoction. She hoped like crazy it wasn’t just going to be a dud!
Jessie continued observing from the bed, her tail twitching nervously. The scene reminded of Willy Wonka in his lab. Brittany even had a long glass rod which she used to stir her mystical liquid, swirling around in the flask. A small grin played with the corner of Jessie’s mouth, forgetting about the danger for a moment.
Finally the potion cooled and Brittany could set her long stirring rod to the side. “Alright… wish me luck.”
Jessie had been intending to talk Brittany out of drinking the potion one last time, but she didn’t have the chance. Before the feline could say anything, her canine girlfriend opened her maw and tossed the green potion down her gullet.
“Not bad!” Brittany said in surprise, licking her chops. “Especially for something made from ingredients off the forest floor.”
“What did it taste like?”
“Minty… like a really mild mouthwash.”
Brittany picked up a mirror and stared at her blue eyes intently, waiting for the change to happen. The book said the the hue of her irises ought to change within ten minutes of drinking the potion.
“Look Brittany! Your eyes!” Jessie gasped, peering into the mirror over Brittany’s shoulder.
“Yes!” Brittany pumped her fist in the air, but the victorious look on her face suddenly fell as she realized something. “No! Only one eye is changing!”
It was true, Brittany’s left eye was slowly turning the green shade she desired, but her right eye was just as blue as ever. Brittany starred at the mirror in shock, not wanting to believe what she was seeing so close and yet so far.
Jessie on the other hand felt nothing but relief. Her girlfriend had survived! That was what mattered to her and… actually. “I think it’s rather cute!” She announced, leaning against Brittany’s shoulder as she admired the husky’s mismatched gaze in the mirror. “And kinda sexy to.”
“But I wanted two green eyes not one!”
“I thought it was about the research?”
“It is!” Brittany protested, tossing the mirror aside and franticly scanning over her magic book trying to figure out what went wrong. “But…”
“Brittany! You did it! You proved magic is a thing.” Jessie exclaimed, shaking the husky’s shoulder in excitement.
But Brittany didn’t share in her feline companion’s excitement. Instead the husky starred stoticily forward wondering, but not hopeful, about her chances of getting this right before school.
