Long ago, a small, simple witch lived in a tiny hut in the far reaches of a dark forest. She was kindhearted witch, with one simple black cat, and created vials of health potions and healing ointments, which lined her quaint walls. She was pure in spirit and longed to help those in need, sometimes offering her wares for free to the exhausted lone passerby who stumbled upon her often forgotten trails of the forest. Many were grateful; others fleed away in terror.
A nearby village caught wind of the fact there was a witch in the nearby forest, and fueled by rash judgment, assumption and hatred, rallied together and pursued her on the night of a new moon. Hearing the thumping on her door and seeing the glow of torches from her window, she cast a powerful spell that let her and her cat travel into an alternate world through a mirror. The village people finally broke down the door, and the witch was nowhere to be found, much to their confusion. They threw the contents of her small hut around, vials crashing and tables overturned. In the process, the mirror in which the witch and her cat entered were shattered and broken. The village often checked the hut, and never found the witch there again-- only finding the hut how they had left it-- in ruins.
Over time, vines and vegetation grew over the hut, and it fell into a state of dilapidation. Windows eventually fell from their frames; doors blown off hinges from gusts of wind through the years. Eventually, a hungry wild canine came across the shattered mirror, which was now covered in dust. With a gentle paw, the canine cleared the dust from the shattered bits of mirror, revealing the beautiful slick glass. Upon gazing into the mirror fragments, the canine's form changed-- the fragments reassembled themselves above its head and in between quills, producing a beautiful mirror-stained glass. The canine also grew antlers and vegetation, and its once dull fur now shined with the beautiful golden hues of sun that hit the pieces of glass once more. The old shattered mirror was somehow filled with magic and life-- perhaps, the witch still lived on, just beyond the cracks in the glass.
