Here's the fourth and final shot of that 1952 Chevrolet Deluxe. Steering wheels used to be such a thing of beauty. Sadly, modern cars have cluttered them up with cruise controls, entertainment system controls, and of course the evil (but required) airbag. I long for a car that will make me smile when I touch my hands to the wheel.

Yes, gone are the days you could get away with a one spoke steering wheel.

Isn't this one phenomenal? I love the way the wheel spokes come out of the hub at an angle then bend. Then the way those angles are matched by the horn ring. It almost gives me goose bumps.

And that shifter! :) Is the R for reverse in a non-standard position, or is there something lower than low? It's been so long since I've seen a car like that, I can't recall...

It's out of focus back there, but I think that the position beyond L is 2. The whole sequence would be P R N D L 2.

Ah, that's what I thought I remembered... But I've heard that some early automatics had R in an odd place, which let to some safety issues! lol

When style didn't really think about safety :D Love the old indicator controller. I have a friend who doesn't drive but would like an old car just to enjoy the styling.

I'd argue that's an expensive way to enjoy the styling. I won't argue though, if it would make your friend happy. I'd recommend visiting car shows as a cheaper alternative.
