Long overdue biography for a character. Emilia Blenda and her world belong to Psion. Done in the new extended comment mode and will be moved to scraps at some point.
If Emilia sounds familiar, that's because she was originally inspired by DocWolf's Lyswa Commendre. I found myself particularly taken to Lyswa; the muscle fur community is oversaturated with cheap DBZ knockoffs (and admittedly the show itself went downhill during the Andriod saga,) making her incredibly original.
But there is a small problem. At one point I had a plan for Emilia but that one has largely fizzled. So I pose this question to my regular audience; should I try to fit her into one of my already established universes or should I try to create something new with the Craftworks League idea in her biography?
Real Name: Emilia Blenda
Species: Beaver/Orgonian
Gender: Female
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 684 lbs
Age: 24
Specialty: Megastructural Engineering, Marco-Mechanics (monster trucks and other super-sized machines,) Material Nanotechnology.
Marital Status: Single
Powers: None
Occupation: Artisan
Status: Member/Founder of the Craftworks League, Member of Apocalypse Watch
Physical Description: Standing approximately six feet tall, Emilia is tall (compared to most species) and extremely buff for a female beaver. Her arms and legs are ripped with muscle, leading to a toned chest and a B-cup suspended over a firm six-pack. Her soft, velvety pelt is a traditional soft brown with her short hair a darker shade of the same color and tied back into a bun. A pair of gentle but firm blue eyes appraise her surroundings.
Outfit description: Emilia’s regular outfit includes a pair of work coveralls, her tool belt (see Tools & Devices for contents,) a light shirt, and a pair of gloves and boots (both are a light honey yellow with metallic inserts on the knuckles and toes) made of materials unique to her culture. Orgonian work gloves are forearm length and fashioned of a material that is light and airy, yet maintains superior grip and gives good insulation against heat and electricity. Orgonian work boots go up past the ankles and are completely armored from toe to ankle, theoretically indestructible and ergonomically engineered to conform to the natural shape of the wearer’s feet, making for an unbelievably comfortable pair of work boots.
Tools & Devices: A builder who has seen too much destruction in her life already, Emilia does not carry weapons unless provided by a client. That being said, the tools she carries can be easily improvised into instruments of pain if the need ever arises.
Tool Belt: Appearing to be made entirely of tool loops and pouches, Emila’s tool belt is of a durable but ordinary material. On any given job, she usually carries the following:
· Pocket Electric Welder: An electric welding torch about the size of a modern screwdriver, powered by a micro-fusion battery
· Nanobit Screwdriver: A basic hand-powered screwdriver with a self-adjusting bit. One-size fits all version of the screwdriver sets of previous generations
· Duralloy Wrench: An adjustable wrench similar to ones from ages past. The only difference is that duralloy tools never need replacing.
· Mega-Wrench: A larger version of her smaller duralloy wrench. With a four-foot long handle and weighing in at roughly thirty-two pounds, such a tool only has one real purpose; servicing the massive vehicles that make up an Orgon construction fleet.
· Fabricator’s Cube: More rectangular then cube-shaped but one of Emilia’s most useful gadgets. The fabricator’s cube is actually a pocket-sized nanotech fabricator. Using microscopic machinery, the FC is capable of assembling small fasteners and spare parts from appropriate scraps of material.
Abilities/traits: A builder, not a fighter, Emilia’s combat skills are subpar despite her incredible strength and deft fingers. Firearms often have to be custom-made to fit her larger then average hands. For the most part, brawling is the general limit of her fighting abilities.
In matters of construction and the use of colossal machinery however, Emilia has few equals. She possesses a keen understanding of nanotech-forged materials, a distinguishable talent for high craftsmanship in mechanics and structural engineering, and an instinctive familiarity for the incredible scale her people build and work.
Her strength of body is more then equal to the strength of her mind. Like many Orgonians, Emilia possesses considerable strength and endurance. Able to lift or bench press up to twice her body weight or run a triathlon in normal gravity with a third of the exertion other athletes would take; Blenda is a excellent specimen of her species.
Background: In many ways, Emilia’s story is also the story of her home world Orgon. Born out of the cosmic void with a super dense core; the higher gravitational pull of the planet gave birth to a relatively stouter (the average Orgonian is much more “compact” then most species) life form. The civilization that evolved on this world developed incredible physical strength, one that was only matched by the strength of their minds in matters of engineering.
By the time Emilia’s civilization achieved interstellar travel, they had built up their planet into a glistening metropolis. Starscrapers reached into the planet’s stratosphere while an efficient network of highways, monorails, and power grids sustained their entire planet. All that changed in one day….
The pirate lord “Grim” McGee was unable to believe his luck. The world of Orgon was rich in technology, one of the most prosperous planets in the galaxy, and supposedly had one of the best defense systems known. Wealth beyond measure loomed below his dreadnaught, the Angel of Blood, and there was no resistance in sight. The lupine warlord made his demands and began bombing the planet below into submission. Through this a great and ironic tragedy had been committed, McGee’s warship was a highly modified demolitions and recovery vessel originally made by Orgonian hands.
Thousands died in the initial bombardment, millions more would join them from the collapse of buildings and the fallout of the virus and “dirty nuke” bombs that rained upon the cities like hail. Emilia and her family would be among the scant million survivors but her lover would join the dead and missing. With their home planet completely uninhabitable, those left behind abandoned Orgon in whatever space-worthy ships they could find or repair.
Throughout and after this loss, Emilia Blenda drifted and did odd work to provide some sort of purpose. Despite this nothing kept her mind occupied for long. That is until somehow the idea of going home and rebuilding came up. At first she thought it was ridiculous but as she thought about it the thought became more and more appealing. But it would not be an easy venture, requiring enormous amounts of material, tools, and raw labor. It would also require many specialists and other “super workers” like herself. The seed of something great was planted, now Emilia had to see where it took her….
Personality: People who don’t know Emilia particularly well find her friendly, hard working, and generally dedicated to the job at hand. Friends who know her better know that’s largely just to keep her mind off of what she lost. She is not without genuine joy however; true enthusiasm comes out of her during the many reconstruction projects or when she finds a friend in the universe. While somewhat emotionally detached, people who can get her to call them friend and mean it cannot ask for a better companion.
If Emilia sounds familiar, that's because she was originally inspired by DocWolf's Lyswa Commendre. Good character with interesting past and present background, nice, plausible personality and good story potential.
When I read her description I got an idea for a character.
What if not all surviving Orgonians were allowed in the ship, maybe because they were convicted criminals, maybe because there simply was not enough room on the ships they could build with the remainig technology at hand so they thought twice who they took? And those who were left behind, already hardened from a life at the criminal bottom of society and often already member of street gangs, became post-apocalyptic scavengers a la Mad Max, Tank Girl and the like?
They were not expected to survive and have not the friendliest greeting for those Orgonians coming back now.
They would make good as bad guys for the beginnig, though most of them may cooperate with the returners later or at least chose to conexist.
Given some scientists had worked on a way to immunize Orgonians against industrial poison and radiation as an alternative to protective suits back before the pirate attack, though the side effects still left it at an experimental stage. Driving their genes into more or less controlled mutation to adapt to the viruses and repair themselves from the radiation also caused other mutations and the resulting side effects.
During the evacuation after the attack people had more urgent things to do than sealing the labs.
In the end, a share of those left behind, scavenging and reactivating what technology they could find, used the experimental threatments because it appeared easier to perfom to them than getting protective suits, and they were too busy fixing the known genetic diseases with nanite surgery to care about good looks. Additonal limbs and organs, poison glands, regeneration and warped proportions could be the result.
Using viruses or nanites to fuse their own genes with gene probes of local wild animals to get intact genes and immunities also caused mutations, often giving then features of the used animals.
A good share survived and stayed fertile, the next generation was even more mutated, but required not as much genetical repair than thier parents.
What do you think about it?
