For those who are curious about Rain and her world, her origin story is here, https://www.furaffinity.net/view/28310752/
Story below is by me.
Working at her desk, Rain kept focused on the thousands upon thousands of Virtual Intelligence thought threads as they were ran through her processors, cold air from the vent above focused down onto her to help keep her from overheating. Keeping an eye on the controller readouts on the monitors in front of her, the input buffer suddenly dropped to zero new threads. Completing the processes that remained, the management software completed the run and she was free to inquire about what was going on.
"VeeEye, why have I stopped?" she asked via her infrared transceiver, her body incapable of talking via sound, the VI robot that was responsible for keeping her buffers full.
"You wished to be notified when your husband was close to home." The automaton replied. "Their estimated time of arrival is 30 minutes."
He was getting back early, Rain thought to herself. She inquired further from the VI, "Did he stop by his friends place?"
"No" the VI replied, "He left the hunting camp and has not made any additional stops."
"Oh, well then get me unplugged and downstairs to the door." she instructed.
"Would you like your frame?" the VI tasked with moving her inquired as it began unplugging the data and power cables that connected her to her desk. Rain always worked without wearing a mobility frame, her limbless robotic vase body simply set onto her desk and in front of the monitors.
"No", she answered. "Get my portable workstation and set it by the door so he will see me when he comes in."
"Acknowledged." replied the automaton as it grasped Rain by her bodies two handles and picked her up.
Rain connected herself to her homes WiFi as she was carried downstairs towards the front door. Pulling up her hubbies location on her map, she hoped he had enjoyed himself. He was on a hunting trip for Razor Wolves. A native species to this world, they were an aggressive and brutal predator. Not particularly intelligent, quite stupid actually, their population exploded as the planet was settled. Roads and other infrastructure allowed them to quickly spread and reproduce from their more traditional habitats, wrecking havoc on other native wildlife. They were considered a nuisance species and it was quickly recognized that their numbers needed to be kept in check, lest they decimate the other local species. While VIs could, and were, tasked with much of the job of controlling their population, sport hunting of them quickly became a popular past-time for the people who settled here.
Arriving at the front door, the VI set rain onto her portable workstation, it having been already moved there by another VI, and plugged her into it for power. The VI knew that Rains body had an extremely short battery life.
"Would you like a wired data connection to your workstation?" The VI inquired.
"No, just power is fine." Rain answered over the houses WiFi. "Let me know when he arrives."
The VI nodded in reply and took up a standby position behind her, should she need anything else. Rain pulled up her email on her virtual heads-up display and began answering messages as she waited. She preferred having her work on a separate computer and monitor in front of her, but simple things like email she was fine with using her bodies built-in hardware.
A short time later, a VI notified her, "Your husband has arrived home."
Closing out her email, Rain grinned and swung her head back and forth in gleeful anticipation, careful not to tip herself over. He had only been gone for a little over a week, but she still missed him. Sure she could call him, but the two of them learned centuries ago that they each needed their own space. Love may be complicated but, despite now having bodies of silicon and steel, their love for each other remained as strong as ever.
Turning up the gain on her ears and listening through the door, she heard the car pull up, his VIs get out, and take him from the car. Like Rain, he had a vase type body and needed to either have a VI move him or be put in a mobility frame. If she still had an organic body, Rain felt like she would be panting and salivating in anticipation of greeting him. Absent the ability of her metal body to do either, she instead began playfully licking her lips and teeth with her tongue as she heard the VIs carrying him up the front sidewalk.
She switched back to her IR transceiver for talking and made sure to have LipSync started. She had a bad habit of forgetting to have it running so that her voice transmissions and lip movements matched up. You would think that not having a voice synthesizer would make a person more aware about it, but not Rain. She would frequently forget it. Her voice and lips would end up badly out of sync, making her look like a bad foreign movie dub. Not this time though.
She heard her husbands VI grab the door handle. Opening the door, it immediately stepped aside as soon as it had entered, revealing him and the VI that was carrying him.
The two made eye contact, a grin forming on his face that was as big as Rains. Unable to contain her excitement at seeing him, she gleefully yelled, "WELCOME HOME!!!"

Thank you so much for the feedback. Glad to hear that you are enjoying my work.
I have a piece in the works where the VIs are shown. They are basically humanoid/anthro in shape, but have very simplified heads/faces so they are visually distinct from actual people, whose bodies are also robotic.
A ref for her mobility frame is in in progress so I can have others draw her wearing it. I also have plans for introducing the remote bodies that she can control.
I have not settled on a design of the hubbies body, but it is in the works. Hubby uses one of the many "off the shelf" bodies that are available. Built with interchangeable components, only the exteriors need to be customized.
So many ideas. So little time it seems.
