I personally would've given more shading and maybe the back ground be more in a park with leafless trees. Creates a more dread and intense moment. Probably also would've been cool to have a muzzle flash if not shading to create more action and work with lightning. Also why does he take his hat off? In any case should've given a motion that he drops it just for more dramatic feel to it I guess. Anyways still a impressive piece and have a nice day.
She offers several commission types and this one is a colored sketch. Adding a muzzle flash would've taken away from the dramatic moment, as pointing a gun at someone gives off an intense feeling of dread and apprehension about what's going to happen. And that's the beautiful thing about art: nothing has to fit into a mold. Why should he ditch his hat? Perhaps he really likes it and doesn't want it to get dirty. It could be anything!
I know that and never said how it should be. Just merely giving my input and critique on the piece. I do see your point but can be said with the muzzle flash, even though more flashy can show their's indeed conflict and nothing says that he would live through it or come unscathed. I don't think you understand what I mean, even though it can be anything it does have a CONCEPT, a focus on what this about which I gather he's getting ambushed or attacked from the behind. It's quite clear about that. The dropping of the hat is a small detail that I would've added cause to show more of how he's surprised by the unwanted company and makes more suspenseful.
