The general theme of today's submissions is bridges! ^__^
The second of two old and large bridges in Pontrhydyfen. Though details are somewhat more hazy than for the aqueduct, this railway viaduct was used by the Rhondda & Swansea Bay Railway, and later by the Great Western Railway and British Railways up until 1972, when all railway lines in the Afan Valley were closed forever. This particular bridge held the line from Port Talbot to Efail Fach, and served all the collieries along the route to transport their produce to the steelworks at Port Talbot, or to the docks at Swansea for export worldwide. Today, the bridge is used as a cycle and walking route between Pontrhydyfen and Efail Fach.
Hope you enjoy!

the old spur line (loop actually) that serviced my mother's home town of Spartansburg, Pennsylvania has also long ago closed. Its roadbed, which travels through the countryside is now used for recreational vehicles. Time marches on and new ways to do things are always found. The little house in the lower right hand corner is the house my mother was born in.
