From 2015, one of the only fan art pieces I've ever done! I can't bring myself to do fanart of something unless I really love it-- to do otherwise feels dishonest. And well, Legend of Zelda is one of the few series I feel invested enough in to do that!
In particular, Majora's Mask has such strong design and such a rich narrative-- there's a lot of hidden imagery in this piece, from the fairies Tatl and Tael forming a ying-yang pattern with the composition, to the giants in the background, to the way Skullkid is looming in a way that almost looks like an embrace. People tend to conflate Skullkid and Majora as being the same character, but I want to be aware of them as different beings. Ultimately, one of the most compelling things about Majora's Mask is that it isn't about toppling some big power hungry big baddie, it's about repairing broken relationships, with Skullkid being the most broken of all.
So under there, somewhere, he's just some shitty kid who wanted friends but was too short-sighted about it; and Link is going into battle knowing that, but also knowing he has no choice but to move forward.
Prints of this piece are on sale in my store. I'll be phasing this piece out of my print line up within the next year or so, so get one while you can!
