Here is the domain coloring I used in the original fox function, applied to the unitary function f(z) = z. This should give you a better idea of how the function is being colored. Here the positive real axis is colored red, while the negative real axis is colored orange. Notice that the image is reflected about the real axis, indicating that we do not differentiate between a complex number and its conjugate. The roots are colored black, and the poles are colored white, as usual.
