Character commission for
skyfox1, please do not re-use or repost without his permission—thanks!
A very special commission for
skyfox1, who requested himself (as a fox, obviously) peeling off an outer human skin. The original description posed it as peeling off a set of overalls, but when I came to sketch it I kept coming back to this scene in Voyage of the Dawn Treader where Eustace is shedding his dragon skin—and although that was the opposite transformation, from animal to human, I felt it worked since I wanted the piece to have a more joyous, liberating feel, and not dwell too much on the implied "ew his skin is coming off!" factor. So I tried to make the skin and clothes act a bit more like a dead lizard skin, or a peeling sunburn—something you want to come off. Fortunately, Skyfox liked this.
For a background he had requested something natural and foresty or cosmic, so I did both. :3

I like it very much! In case anybody's wondering about the meaning behind the picture, alternative titles were "Awakening" and "Rebirth". The original idea had me peeling off the skin like a fox inside a rubber human suit, but I like AE's interpretation of it with the skin shedding off to reveal the fox within.
