Reban abducted a princess because sometimes its fun keeping the old dragon traditions alive. Inevitably, some adventurers came to rescue her and he presented them with a choice, climb the correct paw to the tower the princess is in and they can have her. Climb the wrong one and get crushed between his toes.

Then again, Reban being Reban, even if he hasn’t already eaten the princess his likely to crush everyone anyways.
