She just wanted to spend time with someone who shared her interests, since Kelli didn't give a hoot in hell about Harry Potter. Although Dawn was the one who invited Alex along when they went to the movies afterward, much to Kelli's chagrin.

Clarice actually likes Carlos, but Carlos is oblivious to the fact. She also likes Alex, but tries to act as though she doesn't. Although she has been known to do things just to mess with him.

From what I saw of a short arc of Alex and Clarise (the Coppertone arc), I get the feeling that Alex may have a thing for her, too, but doesn't know how to show it.
