This is another orcish character of mine, Oolakna, or as she's know to the rest of her pack, Goshee Oolakna. She's a mountain orc.
So first off, still working on stuff, so things are subject to change. And I’m no social studies major, so I may be using some of these words wrong. Feel free to to give feedback!
In Age 16 on Terra, Orcs all across Is Konlikam (Mountain Kingdoms, as they’re know to humans) and the rest of the north of the eastern continent of Terra, it is most common that orcs have no central leader, but a representative that speaks for them in the courts of the Mountain King. They are instead lead by the elders and veteran warriors of the pack.
The closest thing to a central leader among these elders would be a figure called the matron, or goshmakt in orcish. She raises the all the children of the pack with the help of others who give their time, and also acts as a healer, teacher, and keeper of their history and lore. The goshmakt is an orc woman that must be compassionate, strong and wise, as she is the primary teacher of the pack, and is the greatest example that orc pups have as they grow up.
Orcs don’t really have family groups, but live in a rather communal society. They have no concept of marriage, and simply love within the moment as they will. An orc may choose to stick with one individual, but it is commonly agreed that whatever relationships may exist are open, and the individuals are free to share affection with others. Any children are given to the goshmakt once they are able to leave their mother. All orcs help to raise the pups at some point in their lives to help build the familial connection between all individuals of the pack. The goshmakt and her nursery of pups are fiercely guarded by all members of the pack. Anything done to harm them is quickly and violently punished.
This is only what is most common among orcish packs, and there are exceptions to these among many packs.
