In the world Vector inhabits exists spiritual parasitic entities known as Animus Parasites. Unseen to the typical mortal eye, as their name suggests, they are parasites of the soul. Finding a particular victim they embed themselves in a variety of ways into the souls of the living. However, they can only really do this to souls that are vulnerable, and in general this applies to people who are in mortal peril, such as barely surviving an explosion, or coming out of some sort of vehicular accident.

The host is unaware of the parasite as they are not physically seen and exist in a metaphysical, spiritual sense. However their effects on the host become apparent. While they are typically not life threatening to those who are still alive after becoming host to a parasite, they begin to exert physical changes to the host's living body for reasons that cannot be explained. Each parasite exhibits a different change in their host.
