Not to jump to conclusions, because we know just about nothing about this guy, but a lot of abusers will groom their victims with gifts so they stay. It creates a sense of debt in the victim, like they owe it to the abuser to stick around.

Plus the "favors" for his friends part makes me think he's extremely unsavory.

He coming more off as that guy who will spend money he doesn't have on things that are just expensive. Get held with praise for he cause he caught it for someone, regardless if the wanted/ liked it.

He spent a large sum of their shared income without discussing it with her first, got angry when she tried to make a logical argument and threatened to take away medical assistance when she would not comply to his view point. These are pretty strong indicators of a toxic relationship.

It's also mentioned earlier that as soon as Ali was born, Wyatt skipped out on them both, so yeah, he's a dick.

Shamefull he would bring up somthing that is a need, i mean if your in pain your well being comes first over a peice of jewelry.

To be honest... he had a valid argument till the forth panel. After that it became pretty abusive. She does deserve to have nice things, even if it means he has to work a bit extra. Her doing "favors" for his friends is kinda... odd... but at that point if what we hear is true, she's making money for her meds herself... The turn to abusiveness comes back in the next few panels. A gift is not something for yourself but for another person, he uses it as leverage against her and that's a no-no. It isn't a gift it's a collar at that point and you don't want to be tied to that. Now it becomes clear why she doesn't like men and equally doesn't like receiving gifts. Puts a bad taste in my mouth overall.
