(obsolete) Chip-Four Seasons-Summer-Allegro non molto (VRC6)
NOTICE: This version is obsolete. I made a new version in 2024
A chiptune arrangement of the movement "Allegro non molto" from the violin concerto "Summer" ("L'Estate") from Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" ("Le Quattro Stagioni").
A song that conjures deep moods. I went for a straightforward adaptation of the violin concerto's sheet music with only a handful of liberties (mostly with dynamics). It's not a perfect adaptation, as I had to adhere to the limits of the VRC6, so many portions of the harpsichord section are simplified or cut, but I don't think the song suffers for it. After some experimentation, I decided not to employ any vibrato - vibrato is meant to convey expressiveness, but in a chiptune like this it only comes off as an unnecessary detail, so I left it out. I used the VRC6 sawtooth channel for the lead violin, which I initially thought was risky, but it ended up sounding all right (playing violin is like repeatedly sawing a string anyway). Obviously, the finished product is going to sound artificial, but that's always what you get with chiptune anyway, and it doesn't mean that there can't still be feeling in the music.
