The Story - Recommendation - and Quality
First and foremost, a massive thank you to
snowgryphonsuits for this beautiful character and wearable art!
The owner of SGS, kerijiano, is a wonderful friend of mine but on to top of that her personal fursuit was my very first fursuit crush. In 2013 at my very first CFz here in the UK I happened to be dealing and during the suit walk a very adorable gryphon came strolling past. I was in my kigurumi by sweetsushi which was of Lapres, my owl, and together with her and suit we bounced around the place. It's the one memory of the convention that really stuck out.
So a few years later, and having hit my goal weight, my other half and I agreed that when I got to where I was aiming for, I'd consider getting one of my characters made. It was really difficult because I know many amazing fursuit makers and a number of them are good friends of mine so picking one over another was too difficult. We, or rather I, ummed and ahhed over the possibility of getting Lapres made into a fursuit, or Kalin and even dabbled with potentially just having Banwen made so that both Ellis and I could enjoy her. I have never been happy with my own creations, I think its down to I see flaws in them and want to tweak them until I feel they're right which unfortunately would likely be never. I thought about changing Lapres's colours to be more neutral but leviathan248 had requested I keep her as she was, but just alter her design instead which is what I had done. Still, I see too many things I'd like to change so if I did get her made, I'd want to change her again.
Then the long list of pre-made suit battles, having a budget and not being able to go over, every suit I tried for went for ridiculous money and I was about to throw in the towel and say "forget it."
Over a year ago now I saw that Keri was going to be opening and saw that she did artistic liberty suits and at that point she had just completed an artistic liberty dragon who looked INCREDIBLE. I couldn't get over the style, the body shape and the colours that were put together and thought I'd just be cheeky and ask her if she might consider doing another artistic liberty.
We started talking about colours and I mentioned if I could pick they would be "Tan, White, and light pink" which is very much my aesthetic with my wardrobe outside of the computer. Then the question turned to species which at first I thought maybe a deer would be nice as they were mostly the suits that I had been after as hoofers are some of my favourite types of characters. Then it dawned on me, that moment when we were bouncing together at CFz and my love of Lapres yet not wanting to make her for the reasons already listed. I plucked up the courage and asked her if she would ever be willing to make a sister suit to Kerijiano but have her be the middle child between Keri and Lapres, as if they were all a gryphon family, and much to my surprise she said "Yes!"
When I had the knowledge I would have surgery last year we made my DTD as I didn't know where I would have been in the queue and while being wrapped up in white tape I had a message from Keri saying that she had just been designing what this character would look like and sent a work in progress of just the outlines and my heart lept out of my chest. It was the right shape, all of the aesthetics that reminded me of both Keri and Lapres, but it was shortly after while still being taped that suddenly a coloured image came through.
It was PERFECT. She had chosen to go with a Snow Leopard like Keri, and an owl like Lapres and from that point on, I ran with it. It took a while to figure out a name but the perfect circles of brown made me think of Boba Tea (tapioca balls that are usually found in Asian drinks) which I've always enjoyed drinking. She was the right shade of Milk Tea, and Levi and I liked adding in other red/pink jellies with our ice cubes, especially lychee, and strawberries. Naming your character after a food might sound strange, but it's a very personal choice based off of memories, not trying to be a cutesy name.
During a time when things have been very low, Keri has been such a sweet and gentle person. I can not tell you how professional she is when it comes to her fursuit business. She is with you every step of the way, and every person who I have spoken to who has worked with her have all said the same thing, she asks you questions, your preferences, shows you what shes doing and honestly goes above and beyond the call of duty when piecing together a fursuit.
The interior of the fursuit is finished INCREDIBLY well, everything is thought of and catered for. I have removable pads that are beautifully made and can easily be clipped in and out to keep them in place, everything is edged so nothing itches, and even the interior of the feet is fairly seemless with the shoes I had sent her to work on. This fursuit came out incredibly comfortable, though I had lost a little weight from when I had made the DTD which I'm trying my hardest to get back, she is still a great fit.
If you are looking for an artistic liberty suit, I HIGHLY recommend Keri and Snow Gryphon Fursuits. Her placement of colours has made such an eye catching character, and I can't get enough of Boba. Even if you're looking for a maker to make you a fursuit of a character you already have, she translates characters so well. Her most recent suits having watched them come off of the line have all been amazing and seeing a few of them in person over the last year, the quality of them match Boba.
I cant thank you enough Keri. Thank you for making me something that means so much to me, and for being a star of a person.
