We live in a lonely world.
Filled to the brim with others, strangers. Yet we still feel no kinship, no warmth. Only creeping distrust, anxiety, loneliness. We can talk to anyone on the other side of the world in an instant, have thousands of acquaintances we call "friends"... And still nobody feels close. Close enough to cheer with us, to share the story of our life with, to spill our woes to. It's easy to know people's faces, their images, although incredibly hard to know the people themselves. Many embrace their solitude. When it becomes a part of you, you learn to ignore the pain, to live without companionship. I've been there. With conviction that I no longer need people to be happy, that I can be fully self-sufficient in achieving a satisfying life. A bleak one, but a familiar one, something I know, something I can adapt to. Sounds better than chasing dreams. Once you make that decision... You become closed. Hardly accessible. A mystery of a person, "The Nobody".
Unless someone comes and gives you this wonderful gift. A gift of companionship. Something so precious you cannot really buy it, unless you'd settle for a counterfeit.
First, there were new friends. Kind people who pulled me out of the dark den I retreated into. For that, I am sincerely grateful - it is a life-changing experience, indeed. There were the old friends, too. Those few who would give you a brief respite from solitude in dark times. Distant... But still there for you. I think I found my place - among those I can actually talk with, whose definition of the word "fun" is not too different from mine.
Then, there are those who will go further than your average buddy. Those who will not only find you "okay", but show genuine interest in you as a person. The true friends, "besties". They are the chosen few - people who have your attention, people who care, ones you trust. These wonderful individuals make each life brighter. Get lucky to have at least one and you will never feel hopelessly alone again. And sometimes, among these folks you will find someone truly unique - your kindred spirit.
Who would that be? Just someone who resonates with the frequency you use to communicate with the world. A person you never get tired of, who never feels awkward to be around. You may chat for days, not running out of things to say. And eventually, this very person sneaks through the crack of the blast door to your inaccessible bunker, the crack you obliviously left by letting your guard down. That is the moment of revelation - the moment when you realize that you're important to someone, that you have another being to share your warmth with. A very happy moment in any life. You might have been hurt in the past, but once this happens, you can taste the rare kind of joy. And... You find out that companionship makes you feel more... Complete. Like bringing colors to even the most beautiful black & white image. Finally, you have choice... Not to be alone in life anymore.
This is what I wish to every single one of you. Get to feel that extraordinary joy. If you already have your true friends and soulmates, cherish them! Make them stay and share the gift of companionship together for as long as circumstances permit. If you have no one, losing hope... Leave the crack open. Be the best version of yourself - kind and interesting for others to explore. Let someone sneak in. Good luck to you, as solitude might be a choice, but loneliness is often undeserved.
Phew, that was a long stream of thoughts. For me, this invaluable companion turned out to be
danero, the handsome lad in this picture, which he made for us, putting in a fair share of effort. Even dragons can find joy in companionship - just look at those mirthful snouts! It doesn't matter who your soulmate is - what matters is that they're here for you. Keep them safe under your wing (or arm, if you don't have any), as I do. ^.=.^
I'm really grateful for this magnificent piece of art, which to this day makes me grin with glee. Thank you, Dan! Also, this seems to be the first full body colored Arc on my page. Enjoy the blue-maned fabulousness ;)
And no, hugs aren't gay :x
Danero is none other than
Arcaizen(Arcdanis) belongs to me.
