The job of a mercenary is far from being an easy one, especially if you are from the demon slayer rank, mercs who can deal with any kind of beast. My name is Shizame Akanzatsu and today might be the worst contract i ever had to deal with.


it all began when i saw a poorly written contract posted inside a tavern, the village is in snowy area which i do prefeer and the contract was local so whatever it was i could still enjoy the frost. We Salva'orek.. nothern that is were born in the harshest environment of the land of Vilvanek ... but that has nothing to do with the event.


So i took the contract and went to the area, a small camp area... great Yinglets.. They probably want me to grab them a big crate of clams or kill a beast to worship its bones. As i meet and greeted their matriach, she told me that one of her only females ran inside the Forbidden forest for no apparent reason...fffffuck. The damn Forbiden forest, this area is plagued with the most fearsome beast , and if you are lucky to breach its borders you are now in Sorkons territory, meaning if you were not allowed in and one of those Crimson tears soldier catches you, you have a nice meeting with General Maldesse, and die not too long afterward.



I.. accepted the contract because the Matriach emptied half of her fluid crying waterfalls and begging me non stop until i said yes, so... I said yes, she gave me a weird bell that apparantly she will respond to and off i go. When i entered the forest it was morning, and now its dusk, i barely can see around and i've been rigging the bell for hours.


As i was ready to give up i finally heard high pitch scream begging for help, it was indeed a female yinglet fitting the description given to me, but she did not described her as the dumbest one of her enclave. She screamed help not because she was lost and afraid, she wanted help to find some Frostbite shrooms. I told her why she went in the forest just for stupid mushrooms, they may be worth a lot of gold, but this is not the job of a Female yinglet to be gathering food and supplies. She told me she needed this if she wanted to mate with the male she fell in love with.


Damn male sent one of their female on a suicide mission just to get rare mushroom for delicacy, all of it just for the privilege to carry his children.. pathetic. I told her to follow me , that we were heading out of the forest and that matriach hired me to get her back, she refused until i had to lie about having frostbite shrooms for her if she followed me, she didnt even ask me to show them as proof, so gullible.



Everything was going well, she was quiet and we were heading towards the exit, thankfully my footprint were still intact. Of course she couldnt follow simple order, she saw those damn mushroom nearby and decided to abandon me, as i ran back to get her, i grabbed her by the arm and yanked her back to me, she let out a powerful shriek in reply. I barely had time to react as a giant creature emerged from the ground and quickly circled and lunged at me, it was a Nightmare Wyrm! Bloody hell this isnt my day is it!?


before she could grab and swallow the yinglet , i threw her behind me, grabbed my sword and had no choice but to quickly release a lightning stike spell. Without focus any spell can severly damage its user, my coat burned from the lightning and my whole arm felt numb afterward. The beast eyes popped like zits from the blast, it released a loud screech and fell against the ground in pain. As i turn around to grabbed the yinglet, she wasnt behind me, as i turn back i saw her climbing on the wyrm to bite an eye, the beast almost swallowed her but i sliced off its tentacles having an hold of her.


I quickly grabbed her as i began running away, the wyrm as dizzy from the lightning and from the pain so it did not give chase, but the damn yinglet wouldnt stop screaming so i had to drop her on the ground, put my sword back in its sheath, and hold her back up while keeping a hand on her muzzle, keeping a tight grip so she could shut up.



As i managed to find my way out and gave her to the matriach in one piece, she had one rough beating from her. I couldnt help but smile at it, but then felt bad as i could clearly see she didnt meant to worry her and get in trouble. I asked the yinglet who was the male who sent her on that suicide mission, when she told me its name, the matriach growled, saying that he ran away as soon as Shizame left to find her, she didnt stopped him because she believed he had something important to do, but in reality he probably didnt want to face up for his act.


When came time of my payment, she barely had anything to offer me, a few gold piece, a small wooden statue of a yinglet , i looked at it confused, she sigh and removed her pendant and tossed it at me with a bitter attitude. The pendant was made of silver and had her name written on it, she told me to sell it , it could be worth more coins.


I could have walked away with it ... but i just felt bad, i gave the pendant back and the coins, i only kept the small yinglet wooden statue. She smiled brightly as i gave her the pendant back, so it made me smile too, it was... a odd contract that ended with me almost almost severely injured myself and lost the person i was supposed to protect, all of it for just a wooden statue but heh... I guess im a dumbass with a big heart... or just a dumbass.. Still this was my worst contract yet, definitely find more job by yinglets if i ever get bored and want a crazy dangerous contract or something hehehehe.

yup Shizame is back to his Salva'orek form, many reasons for it. The last design i made i will keep to make a different oc with it so dont worry, his Avian form wont go to waste.
