“Air Mail, are you okay sweetie?”
“I’m fine, mother.”
“You know you could tell me if anything was wrong right?”
“I know, mother!”
“O-okay… I love you, Air Mail.”

Air Mail has a lot of resentment directed towards her mother. Like some of the other kids, she is stuck in her mother’s shadow, the only difference is that Derpy isn’t casting the best shadow. Derpy is just seen as this ridiculous clumsy pony with no ambitions and since Air Mail looks like a Derpy 2.0 that’s all shes ever seen as as well. Sure she is a great flyer but doesn’t she know flying that fast and doing all of those death defying stunts can cause some serious property damage when if she crashes?

Derpy has a very nonchalant attitude about how other ponies see her and doesn’t give a buck any which way about it. She’s told her daughter not to let what others think get to her and that all that matters is how she feels about herself. Not bad advice but not what Air Mail wanted. Because really if her mother wasn’t such a klutz, wasn’t such a silly heart and at least tried to make herself less so then Air Mail wouldn’t be having this problem.
