Deciding not to bother with the ladder, you reach up as high as you can, get ahold of the book and carefully tug it free... Upon which, you bring the whole shelf down about your head."

In the accompanying illustration, the poor fellow has been knocked to the ground by a cascade of books, and his powdered wig has been set askew. The fellow is still clutching a copy of "Fanny Hill."

Then there's Evelyn's library disaster in The Mummy. Every book shell collapses like dominos.
